SUNRISE

SUNRISE

Sunrise or arunica is an event in which the upper side of the Sun appears above the horizon in the east. Sunrise is not the same as dawn, where the sky begins to lighten, some time before the Sun appears, ending twilight (the Sun's light event is visible from late dusk to dawn). Because atmospheric refraction causes the Sun to be visible while below the horizon, sunrises and sunsets are, from one point of view, optical illusions. The sun also appears larger on the horizon, but this is another optical illusion, similar to the moon illusion.

The Sun's westward revolution around the Earth after exiting the horizon is caused by the Earth's eastward rotation, a counterclockwise revolution when viewed from above the North Pole. This illusion is very convincing that many cultures have mythologies and religions that are based on a geocentric model. The same effect can be seen with satellites near the poles.

This is the kind of photography at sunrise.
