RE: Message from 2031 on 2021 Revolution

Great video and you've nailed it regarding the first 2 phases of the decentralised revolution.

I don't think its correct to say in 2031 that BTC and ETH won't be successful in the big finance space where fees are not an issue.

But there is a third phase - content and micro-payments where fees are a huge issue.

I'm interested in Koinos but Hive already has this key features AND a large active community.

What are the key advantages of Koinos over Hive?

Sort:

Hive is a dApp. Koinos is a dApp platform. In short, smart contracts. Hive is a specific suite of smart contracts (a dApp) that is mated to a decentralized network that is extremely difficult to upgrade and which developers cannot use to run custom code (smart contracts). By migrating some or all of Hive to Koinos, the Hive dApp developers will be able to retain the fee-less nature of the application, eliminate the need to hardfork, and gain from our scalability solutions.

Not sure I can agree with you here.

Hive IS a dApp platform. There are 50+ Hive based dApps which are among the most successful and most used (by real people not bots) of all dApps in crypto.
Hive is extremely easy to code dApps for, unlike Ethereum where Solidity expertise is rare and open source often fails to pick up flaws in time to prevent hacks, because too few people have the necessary expertise.

Smart contracts are already available and being used on Hive, as a 2nd layer solution (which is where they should be - first layer smart contracts are very problematic).

Hive smart contracts may have some limitations but they are not really an issue in practice.

The the actual use cases of completely flexible (Ethereum style) smart contracts are quite limited - to high value financial smart contracts such as for ICOs and DeFi.
Ethereum has already taken this crown (despite fees and hacks) because people are only going to entrust large amounts of money to the longest lived and largest market cap smart contracts blockchain.

For low value transactions and content, games, social media etc Hive already has everything needed, and the advantage (that BTC and ETH also have) of having survived a long time and having big active communities.

I'd be interested to know what the actual dApp use cases you propose for Koinos that can't already by done on Hive or Ethereum (for high value).
