There are many considerations when determining how to place support structures on 3D printed models. The video linked above shows part of the post-processing of this print job. Hopefully it is enough to give you idea of what is involved. This screenshot is taken from PreForm, the software used for programming my 3D printer. Building upon what I learned last time, this post continues with notes about supporting sponsons, though I need to mention something quick about the fenders on the Type 97.

The support at the corner of the front fender, indicated by the red circle, is completely unnecessary. I thought I would need one there, but not so.

Moving on to the main point of today's post, the experiment was to support the four corners of the right-hand sponson on the KT-3, indicated by the red arrows. Meanwhile, those same corners on the left-hand sponson were left completely unsupported:

I save each individual tank as its own print job, in order to alter the support scheme for each model as needed. After seeing the results of this print job, I came to the conclusion that the bottom corners of the sponson should be supported, but the top corners definitely don't need it. The support scheme was altered accordingly:

I have a few more tips to share about printing tanks, specifically, though given what those are, that will probably wait until the next time I print a King Tiger or Grozniy Klinok. At some point in the future, I may make a video tutorial showing the entire process, rambling about the various considerations with the placement of support structures. Speaking of my Soviet version of the Baneblade, I need to modify it anyway, so perhaps that will be the tank that gets the full video.
