Mi historia con el maquillaje no inicia por el mero maquillaje en sí, sino que lo cierto es que se interrelaciona con mis inicios en el arte. Llevo mucho tiempo pintando, me encanta hacerlo y mi fuerte es el óleo, llevo más de 15 años pintando y dibujando, es algo permanente y constante en mi vida.
However, painting evolved to web design and illustration, I became an illustrator for the Instagram page of Gobierno Astral, whose user is @gob.atral where you can find today a whole catalogue of my designs.
No obstante, la pintura evolucionó al diseño e ilustración web, me convertí en ilustradora para la pagina de Instagram de Gobierno Astral, cuyo user es @gob.atral en donde pueden encontrar hoy en día todo un catalogo de mis diseños.

So how does makeup come into my life? / ¿Entonces como llega el maquillaje en mi vida?
As I found a little bit of my way as an illustrator, and not just as a person who likes to draw, I found myself inclined to draw faces, eyes, mouths, both by hand and virtually. Here I'll leave you with an image I made of my eye in Pop Art style, where I experiment with colors and that today is available in my instagram.
Conforme fui encontrando un poco de mi rumbo como ilustradora, y no solamente como persona que le gusta dibujar, me vi a mi misma inclinada a dibujar rostros, ojos, bocas, tanto a mano como virtualmente. Por acá les dejaré una imagen que hice de mi ojo en estilo Pop art, donde experimento con colores y que hoy está disponible en mi instagram.
After drawing face after face, I wanted to start doing my own makeup, and I went looking for real makeup references to do it in my drawings, even though I clearly had zero experience doing makeup on my own.
Después de dibujar rostros tras rostros, quise empezar a maquillar mis propios dibujos, y fui buscando referencias de maquillaje real para hacerlo en mis dibujos, aunque claramente tenía cero experiencia maquillando por mi misma.
Then I fell in love with the makeup, its colors, everything and I wanted to do it myself. I'll be honest, when I started I said to myself: How hard must it be if you already know how to paint?, but Oh surprise. IT'S NOT THE SAME. Makeup has its own techniques, painting on canvas is predictable, the base is always the same, but the face is not, the face has folds and textures, and it moves all the time, or rather: We move all the time.
Entonces me enamoré del maquillaje, de sus colores, de todo y quise hacerlo yo misma. Voy a ser sincera, cuando comencé me dije a mi misma: ¿Qué tan dificil debe ser si ya sabes pintar?, pero Oh sorpresa. NO ES LO MISMO. El maquillaje tiene sus propias técnicas, pintar sobre lienzos es predecible, la base siempre es la misma, pero el rostro no, el rostro tiene plieges y texturas, y se mueve a cada rato, o mejor dicho: Nos movemos a cada rato.
Initially I had a hard time doing a more or less decent outline, binding shadows was a disaster, and blurring dust instead of liquid was a real complication. In fact, this picture I left here next to me where I have some blue and gold shadows, was a great achievement for me, it was a feat to put the blue with the gold without making a strange green.
Inicialmente me costó horrores hacer un delineado más o menos decente, ligar sombras era un desastre, y difumar polvo en vez de liquido era toda una complicación. De hecho, esta foto que dejé aquí al ladito donde tengo unas sombras azul y doradas, fueron todo un logro para mi, fue toda una hazaña poner el azul con el dorado sin que se me hiciera un verde extraño.
What makeup means to me/Lo que el maquillaje representa para mi
Makeup for me represents two things, the first is a way to boost your self-esteem, makeup does not change features, it does not do surgery, it does not inject botox, makeup is you with more color. It is you enhanced, but you are still you and nobody or anything takes that away.
El maquillaje para mi representa dos cosas, el primero es una forma de potenciar tu autoestima, el maquillaje no cambia rasgos, no hace cirugía, no inyecta botox, el maquillaje eres tú con más color. Eres tú potenciada, pero sigues siendo tu y nadie ni nada te quita eso.
The other thing it represents for me is art, it is pure and incredible art, it is a discipline that deserves respect, because it involves technique, creativity, knowledge, harmony. When you make up you do it on a canvas that has a life of its own and where you can express a million things, and this is demonstrated in the Netflix series Glow Up, where they reflect how every makeup artist in reality has the opportunity to not only make up to look good, but also to express. That's my conclusion about makeup: It's an expression, just like music, or the practical arts, or ballet, it's an artistic expression of whoever creates it.
Lo otro que representa para mi es arte, es puro e increíble arte, es una disciplina que merece respeto, porque involucra técnica, creatividad, conocimiento, armonía. Cuando te maquillas lo haces sobre un lienzo que tiene vida propia y en donde puedes expresar un millón de cosas, y esto se demuestra en la serie de Netflix Glow Up, donde reflejan como cada maquillista del reality tiene la oportunidad de no solo maquillar para verse bien, sino también para expresar. Esa es mi conclusión del maquillaje: Es una expresión, igual que la música, que las artes prácticas o que el ballet, es una expresión artística de quién lo crea.

Tienes toda la razón en lo que dices! Creo que aún hoy en día el maquillaje se sigue considerando algo vanidoso y suñerfluo, y no somos muchos quienes apreciamos su valor artístico. Eres una chica super talentosa, me encantan tus ilustraciones y tus obras de maquillaje también 💜✨
