Hello Hiveians
Its a huge challenge to be embrace oneself the way we were created.
With the advent of body shamming and bullying one tends to have low self esteem and often give in to what the crowd says about you.
Many are on the lookout for big hips, bust or even bleach their skin to a particular color, what about the pink lips seekers?
We believe that looking in a particular way will make us acceptable, the ever desired perfect figure eight.
True Beauty is accepting yourself the way you are.
My journey to stay natural started in 2017 when I decided to cut off my relaxed hair, at first we Africans rocked our curly natural hair before the advent of relaxes when we decided to stretch our hair and make them more straight like the ones we see on the whites.
It came with lots of work load when i have to relax at intervals, to detangle the curls, even with proper maintenance the hair never grew past some certain length.
Our weather condition, nutrition and alot differs, i couldn't keep pretty straight long hairs like the whites because of the difference.
I cut off all the relaxed hair in 2017 and went natural using only shea butter coconut oil and moisturizers on my hair..
Its m 3 years journey now and am loving my Afro.
Throw back to when the hair was just coming up
Beautiful hair! I cut off my four years natural hair two months ago and growing it out again.
What happened, why did you cut it... Was it that difficult for you to take care it.
I just felt like being on low cut and growing it again.
I love your hair! and the whole article.
In your past article you talked about this princess dream little girls have, and it's funny and uncomfortable, because I was a girl who loved barbies as well. I am a black latin woman, and when I became an adult, I find annoying that girls received this influence about being white-blonde-thin to be pretty.
On the other hand, my youngest daughter have afro hair like his father, and when I take her to the hairdresser I realize that they just don't know how to take care of the natural curly hair, they are used to treat straight hair, natural or not. It is inconvenient to treat woman who embraced their natural hair. So, I have to treat her hair by myself and we are doing it ok.
If you could give me advices about taking care of healthy natural afro hair, my daughter and I would be pleased.
Natural oils are good on the curly hair, I mixed coconut oil and water in a spray bottle and spray my hair often for oils and moisturizing, shear butter does a good job to soften hair and reduces tangling.
Using weave-on and wigs helps keeps the hair healthy during a harsh weather. Most time I use crotchet braids and wigs after making simple weaving to the back, those are what I use on my hair
Thank you Monica!
Acceptance is a hard road but the destiny is so beautiful
You just hit the point, I love that.
Thank you
