Man, this was an awesome take on some really interesting stuff! I personally have a deep love for graffiti art though I’ve never done any myself; I’ve practiced some of the styles on paper over the years, but although I personally never honed my skills with the rattle-can, I love looking at what others have managed to accomplish.
Graffiti really I believe is a way under-appreciated art form. Artists in this genre take risks just to make their art - art for which they receive no pay or compensation. That to me makes this form of art an absolute expression of passion and self-expression. Thanks for sharing this deeper dive into the subject, there were many nuances here I had not previously considered.
thx you very much for your feedback, comment and upvote. i´m very pleased for the positive feedback and that you liked the post.
i think it´s true. most of the artists who working self authorized in public space are more straightforward and honest than the colleagues who work for the gallery. graffiti artists do not ask for permission and they are doing what they have to do and not what other people tell them to do.
you´ve to start making art in the public space. an awesome inspiration for it is the movie "exit trough the giftshop" (if you don´t know it). the public space is OUR space! we build it with taxpayer money, so we should have the right to interfere with it creatively. it can be posters, stickers, stencil paintings, or traditional graffiti. but we should take back the reigns. so go out and be creative ;). we should not leave the space to advertising and commerce without resistance. that´s what i think.
Wow, I hadn’t really considered that before to be honest, and I’m not sure how I think it would play out as a policy, but I like it as an ideal for sure!
