Once upon a time in my youthful student days Brisbane city had more of a country feel with office buildings and hotels were only several stories high. It was the 70's and a time when homes were only in the suburbs. But, with the combined efforts of visionary investment property developers and councillors a dramatic modern new look transformation has evolved. They have purposefully and successfully created high density living suburbs in inner Brisbane city, enticing lots of people to take up residence in the city in droves.
And why wouldn't they? Not only is it convenient to live near shops, theatre, restaurants, markets, work etc, there is an extra touch in the form of shrubbery, trees, green plants and flowers softening the harsh concrete unit buildings. It the little extra attraction, a purposeful plot that gets a buyer to sign a contract. Or maybe these bigwig developers are really nature lovers with a want to improve the environment.
But, I know Brisbane is not unique, cities in countries around the world all have city's suburbs full of unit dwellers. It is the trend now. All the modern ones have that special touch of nature strategically planted here and there to aesthetically soften the concrete of the buildings.
Urban exploring in West End Brisbane opened my eyes to the special extra little touches now put into city living. In the past units were made of concrete and brick with cement driveways. Thank goodness the more attractive nature enhanced approach has entered into the picture.
Totally entertained by the presentations of plants, so creatively included to enhance the inner unit building suburbs. A plot or not, it works.
So much nicer looking at Bird of Paradise plants and flowers than just air conditioning vents.
Maybe too, there are some areas of a city like the old very well established ones that far more attractive than others. I would be open to buying a unit in this part of the city, it is old, historic, attractive, a great location with the river down the road. I am easy to get sucked in. Using nature with unit living in West End is one good idea.
I know there are green walls on the sides of buildings and gardens set up on the roof of office and unit buildings. There is a lot more for the council and develpers to do for the unit dweller yet in Brisbane.
