Abandoned Bowling Alley - Phuket, Thailand
A bit of Phuket history
This bowling alley was part of a larger complex including the Pearl Hotel (still operating), a movie theater, and a mall joining all three together built in the early to mid 1970's by one of the local wealthy Chinese/Thai families. This complex was "the" place for locals to go at that time. A local friend remembers this place fondly. Moreover, this was the tourist spot because the beaches were not developed and the town was the only area with any hotels. These days the hotel is stylishly retro having been renovated and the cinema converted to the Trick Eye Museum. The tourist areas are at the beach and locals go shopping/cinema at the new malls. The bowling area and mall areas are abandoned and derelict so of course we'll be having a look there..
The cool style from the 70's. The Lido and Scala cinemas in Bangkok were in the same era but were still in use up to recent times.
The main entrance. Lots of good memories there for locals surely
The entrance. In the background you can see the Pearl Hotel renovated recently.
Nice shot
Really can't argue with that form. You can see some of the taller commercial buildings in the background. Mobile telephone operators
Just needs a bit of paint
The 70's were groovy times
What more could you need?
The days of cool signs with lighting
A peek inside
10 pins
Two locks one chain. Crime isn't much of a problem here
Phuket tags
Thais try to beautify everything. Even abandoned buildings
The big sign from back in the day
Urban decay and natural beauty
Some fine technique. I predict a strike
The entrance to the first mall in Phuket
Perhaps inspired by Alice in Wonderland? Yeah we've all had enough of covid19. Some fresh graffiti...
When you need to make that call
I'm surprised how well the paintings have held up considering the weather here...
I've always thought how great this would be to reopen somehow as retro bowling with live bands playing. I'm a big fan of urban decay and local history so luckily we've found both here. Maybe I can find someone with a key next time to let me have a look inside.

Hey Chris,
just a suggestion... You might want to switch the first border to image file instead. Because it shows something like this :
Thanks yes I noticed that too. I didn't realize the border would come up as the thumb... Can I edit the post? I thought was you posted that was it... I made a nice thumb as well hehe.
