Sober October

in Resolutionsyesterday

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to talk about deciding to go completely alcohol free for October!

Sober October

It's that time of year again!

Sober October is something that I did 2 years ago. I think last year I did it mostly, but was not completely sober, as in not a drop of alcohol. This year though, we shouldn't have anything that we need to go to in which it will taint me! Lol

I think it's really important to give our bodies a pretty long break for some things. When we are able to let things reset, relax and get back to a good baseline, wherever that baseline is, then we can help do a miniature version of a detox. Those things are really important!

I, like many men my age, got the idea from listening to Joe Rogan. I enjoy his content, and have adopted a bunch of his philosophies. I haven't yet done the cold plunge one though.. that one I let my inner bitch get the best of me lol but there are many others that I do like! I don't idolize the guy, I disagree with him on several things but I also am not going to downplay the fact that he is an incredibly powerful voice for positive change in so many different areas.

For me, Sober October is one of the things that I can do to challenge myself. I will unlikely be able to run a full marathon due to some old injuries from skateboarding for so many years, so I am able to figure out things that are difficult in my day to day life, that challenge me to be a better person. Not drinking ANY alcohol, or consuming any mind-altering substances for the entire month of October is a good one for me. It's high reward, low-risk and it's also pretty challenging, which is sad to say in the world we live in.

We, as a society, enjoy our indulgences. There are some indulgences that I still partake in that I wish I wouldn't, but at the same time, it's one step at a time with this stuff. I am trying to fix my flaws as much as I can and try to tackle them one at a time. I think this is an important mindset to have, especially in the world we live in where it's all about pushing the vices on people!

I like the mental challenge of not being able to enjoy a glass of wine in the evening, even though I really would like one. I tell myself that it's an important thing to wait for. Also, the wine hits better when you're completely free of alcohol for a while lol. One glass does the job instead of 2!

One of the things that I want to try this year is see how long I can extend that Sober October for myself. Can I extend it all the way to Thanksgiving? Probably! I have a work event coming up after Thanksgiving, with a big bunch of us though and I think that's likely going to be the end of it lol. Give into peer pressure, bitch!

I always thought Joe doing sober October was a cool idea, I really don't drink at all so I'm participating regardless lol. I suppose giving up herb for the month is an idea but ughh.
Hope to see you make it through Thanksgiving!

Best of luck to you with that. I'll drink your share for you!

Hahaha cheers, enjoy! I'll be breaking it with a beer in about 8 weeks lol
