Today I want to share some beautiful photos from Maokong. Although the weather has been really hot—feeling far from ideal for going out—I still managed to take some time to stroll around Maokong with a friend. The main goal was just to catch up, so the photos were taken casually along the way. Even though they’re spontaneous shots, the sunlight really made the scenery look lovely. It felt nice to reconnect with nature after such a long time.
I’ve actually been to Maokong many times and had originally planned to set aside time to write a proper post about it and share my thoughts. But a few days ago, I got a paronychia (a finger infection) on my index finger—the one I use most for scrolling my phone. Since I also had to use it constantly for work, the inflammation kept flaring up. Even when I wasn’t working, I barely dared to type, so writing this post kept getting delayed.
It was my first time getting paronychia, and I didn’t know much about it at first. After looking it up online, I learned that in severe cases it can lead to cellulitis. My finger swelled up for many days, and typing at work was extremely painful. Later it even started to pus, and every day I worried about whether my finger might get worse. Thankfully, with time it healed. Many people say that paronychia is usually caused by accidentally injuring the skin while trimming nails, but I personally think it may also relate to immune system strength. That’s partly why I decided to go for an outdoor walk with a friend in Maokong—it’s also a way to boost immunity.
Most visitors to Maokong head to the cable cars, cafés, and restaurants. For those who like some exercise, you can also walk along the Camphor Tree Trail and enjoy the greenery. On this casual walk, I noticed many cat-themed signs and decorations, and occasionally saw little cats along the way. Honestly, the name “Maokong” really fits!
Maokong is also known for its tea culture and natural scenery. I’m not much of a tea expert, but I happened to pass by the Taipei Tieguanyin and Pouchong Tea R&D and Promotion Center. Its “Shanshui Youqing” (Mountain & Water with Feeling) sign had a charming, antique look that left a strong impression on me. I also checked out the Xiaotian walkway, which I always seem to miss. It’s a flat wooden trail where you can sit and enjoy the view if you get tired.
This time, it was just chatting with a friend and wandering aimlessly, but being surrounded by the greenery of nature really made me feel recharged. It reminded me that people really do need to get outdoors regularly!
