The latest slang Nigerian youth used more often this days is the word “japa”, which is a Yoruba word that meant leaving or running away. That is the term Nigerian youths are now using to describe leaving the shores of the country for greener pastures abroad.
Education is the best bet to get visas easily abroad this days with various countries tending to offer scholarships for master’s and undergraduate programs, and some of which come with an option of permanent residency.
Nigerian youths have now ventured into study visas as the easiest way to “japa” from Nigeria, especially with the continuous social and economic hardships in Nigeria. The state of public education in Nigeria is as shallow as ever and is not helping matters as university students has been at home for almost 7months now due to the strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
It is expected to see mass resignations to hit many companies in Nigeria as academic activities started in countries like the UK, USA, and Canada. This follows as many of our youths are applying to study or work in foreign countries following the uncertainties surrounding the Nigerian economy and safety.
We pray Almighty God delivered this country, protect and safeguard Nigerians wherever they are.
God bless Nigeria.
