The ASUU strike has been going on for eight months now with Nigerian students still out of school, the federal government and ASUU have both failed to make an agreement to resolve the strike. The Federal Government decided to take the association to court for refusing to call off the strike, the association had said the Federal Government had not still accepted their demands, and as a result of that, they will refuse to return to work.

On the 18th of September, the case between ASUU and the Federal Government of Nigeria was presented before the court of law in Abuja. The court ruled in favor of the government(not surprised) and ordered ASSU to reopen the schools for Lectures to immediately return to work.

ASUU has given their statement on the court ruling, they insist it was not a fair ruling by the court and that their Lawyer is filing an appeal and staying on the execution of the ruling.

ASUU has said that they never closed down the public university it belongs to the federal government, they can open and close it anytime they feel like but they are only withdrawing their services from teaching, supervising, and holding statutory meetings.

ASUU Chairman, University of Ibadan, Professor Ayoola Akinwole, gave his statement on the court ruling. ''We remain committed to our resolve to prosecute the strike and our members have resolved not to be caged by tyrannical orders. As you know, we have appealed the Industrial Court ruling.

Our members will have nothing to do with teaching, supervision nor attend statutory meetings until our demands are met and the strike is suspended by the leadership of the union.”Source

The Association has urged the federal government to do the needful and fulfill the promise made to them in 2009. The downside of the strike is affecting the students going to a federal university, some should have graduated from the University but are unable to because of the strike. I don't see the strike ending anytime soon, because both parties are miles away to agree on anything as the situation stands.

So guys that will be all for today, thanks for passing by.
