You might be right about the noise difference. I don't have an expensive mic like some people have, but I have an old headset with a mic on it that came with a cellphone in the long ago before bluetooth was very common. The mic is probably around the same quality as yours. The difference in sound is that my laptop fan is VERY LOUD so if I'm recording with laptop you can hear that noise a lot; if I use the headset mic it mostly eliminates that noise from the recording.
Try it outside on a windy day and that will be a good test, because video from a phone or camera on a windy day is always very noisy, and maybe the mic will be better?
