STEMng: Welcome to subsidies-less economy

There were prophecies, doubts, rancours, agitation, fears, uncertainty, and whatnot. However, the swearing-in of the newly elected Nigerian presidents has come and gone. During his campaign, the new president made the removal of petrol subsidies a focal point. Barely 48 hours after his swearing-in, the policy has been implemented.

One thing remains though, how will Nigerians survive this new policy that will most likely raise the prices of goods and services by over 200%? As for me and mine, we are filled with hope. Hoping for the best and expecting the worst. What about you? What tip have you got to maneuver this forthcoming austerity? Feel free to share your tips below.

Welcome to the subsidies-less economy and a new edition of STEMng Digest.

Who are we?

STEMng is the Nigerian sub-community of the stemsocial community, a community that has been supporting stem authors on the hive blockchain for about four years now. While stemsocial focuses on everyone irrespective of their country, STEMng is specifically for Nigerians. The best stem contents published by Nigerians on the Hive blockchain are highlighted weekly.

Below are the posts that made it into our digest for this week:

  1. @jude9: Supervision of My Intern Teaching On Dentition Through Video Teaching

Our first, post-subsidies-less economy selection discusses the experience of the author, a Ghanaian, supervising an intern in teaching dentition through video. He describes how they used a variety of methods to assess the intern's progress, including reviewing videos, providing feedback, and conducting mock exams. While it was about supervising an intern, there are enough lessons to be learned about the human teeth for anyone that cares to read.

2.@sam9999: Cataplexy: The Human Muscle-napper
Cataplexy is a condition where people suddenly lose muscle control. It's often triggered by strong emotions, like laughter or anger. People with cataplexy may collapse, drop things, or slur their speech. It can be embarrassing and disruptive, but there are treatments available. So if you find yourself napping all over the place, don't worry - you're not alone! read this post and get an idea of what to do.

3.@ireti: Debunking Caffeine Myths I Heard Today

Caffeine is a popular stimulant that's often vilified for its negative side effects. But the truth is, caffeine isn't as bad as you think. In fact, it can actually have some benefits, like improving alertness and focus. So next time you're feeling tired, reach for a cup of coffee or tea and don't worry about the caffeine. It's not going to kill you, but first, you may have to read this post.

4.@busted1: Rotavirus still exists despite vaccination.

Rotavirus is a common virus that causes severe diarrhea in young children. It can be deadly, but there is a vaccine that can help protect children from getting sick. However, the vaccine is not 100% effective, and some children who are vaccinated can still get rotavirus.

So what can you do to protect your child from rotavirus? Read the full post for answers to this question.

5.@oluwatobiloba: At what point does Goiter require extra treatment?
Ever feel like you have a frog in your throat? If you've been diagnosed with a goiter, you know that feeling all too well. A goiter is an enlarged thyroid gland, and it can cause a number of problems, including difficulty breathing and swallowing.

But not all goiters are created equal. Some are small and harmless, while others can be large and cause serious problems. So, when does a goiter become a problem? Your answers lie in the post. Have a good read.

And that ends our selections for this week. Do not forget to give the featured posts/authors your maximum support. Thank you in advance.
