Larry begins his look at today in history from the world of aviation. He finds out that on this day in 1927, American aviator Charles Lindbergh made the first nonstop solo flight over the Atlantic Ocean, flying from New York to Paris aboard the monoplane Spirit of Saint Louis for around 33.5 hours.
From the world of aviation, Larry goes to India. He finds out that on this day in 1991, Rajiv Gandhi, India's Prime Minister from 1984 to 1989, was assassinated in a suicide bomber attack.
From India, Larry goes to the world of human exploration and discovery. He finds out that on this day in 1542, Hernando de Soto, the Spanish conquistador and explorer who was the first European to find the Mississippi River, passed away and was buried in the river in Louisiana.
From the world of human exploration and discovery, Larry goes to Russia. He finds out that on this day in 1921, Andrey Sakharov, a Soviet nuclear theoretical physicist and human rights activist who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1975, was born in Moscow.
From Russia, Larry goes to Ireland. He finds out that on this day in 1944, Mary Robinson, an Irish lawyer, politician, and diplomat, who was Ireland's first female President from 1990 until 1997, was born in Ballina, County Mayo, Ireland.
Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from the Uruguay. He finds out that on this day in 1932, Amelia Earhart, an American aviator, became the first woman to fly a flight solo across the Atlantic Ocean.
Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
