Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for Saturday, the 17th day of February, 2024. Happy weekend everyone.
It was a feast of goals for the "big boys" in the EPL today. The rain of goals started with Brendford who hosted Liverpool but had to suffer a heavy defeat at home (1-4) and later Arsenal who also played away to Burnley, crushing them (0-5) with Bukayo Saka grabbing a brace. This result of Arsenal followed a similar one they had last week wherein they rolled over WestHam United with ease in a (6-0) drubbing.
Be that as it may, it was rather mixed results for others like Tottenham Hotspur who were rather unfortunate today losing (1-2) at home to Wolves; and also WestHam United who were beaten (2-0) by Nothingham Forest.
Larry then veers off to have a look at today in #history.
Larry begins his look at today in history from Vietnam. He finds out that on this day in 1979, following the Vietnam War, Vietnam strengthened its ties with the Soviet Union rather than with China, and China invaded its southern neighbour, following a series of anti-Chinese, pro-Soviet manoeuvres by Vietnam.
From Vietnam, Larry goes to Kosovo. He finds out that on this day in 2008, Kosovo declared independence from Serbia, but a number of countries refused to recognise the new republic. The International Court of Justice eventually found that Kosovo had not breached international law, but Serbia rejected the ruling.
From Kosovo, Larry goes to Indonesia. He finds out that on this day in 1996, an earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia killed 108 people, injured 423, and left 58 missing.
From Indonesia, Larry goes to Pakistan. He finds out that on this day in 1843, having won the Battle of Miani, the British seized much of what is now Pakistan's Sindh province.
From Pakistan, Larry goes to the USA. He finds out that on this day in 1963, Michael Jordan, an American collegiate and professional basketball player who is largely regarded as one of the greatest all-around players in the game's history, was born in Brooklyn, New York, U.SA. He guided the Chicago Bulls to six NBA championships (1991–1993, 1996–1998).
Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from England. He finds out that on this day in 1991, Ed Sheeran, a British singer-songwriter recognised for his genre-crossing style that incorporates folk, rock, rhythm and blues (R&B), pop, and hip-hop influences, was born in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England.
Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
