Meta Unveils “Video Seal”: A New Tool to Detect AI-Generated Videos

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has taken another step toward addressing the challenges posed by artificial intelligence in media. The company announced the launch of Video Seal, a cutting-edge tool designed to identify AI-generated videos using imperceptible watermarks. The announcement was reported by TechCrunch on Thursday (12).

The open-source technology is designed to integrate seamlessly with existing software systems, providing a robust solution for distinguishing between authentic and AI-created content.

How Does Video Seal Work?
The tool embeds an invisible watermark into video content, making it possible to track its origin without disrupting the viewing experience. Beyond this, Video Seal can insert hidden messages into video files, ensuring traceability even after the videos are shared or modified.

Meta’s AI research scientist, Pierre Fernandez, emphasized the importance of this innovation. “The goal is to provide a more effective video marking solution, particularly to detect AI-generated videos and protect originality,” he explained.
