Hivefest 10: Closing dinner and drinks

in HiveFestyesterday

Hi again!

I'm here to show you a bit of what happened in the last day of HiveFest10, in Kuala Lumpur. It was basically a free day, which was perfect because everybody was tired from the previous days, with the highlight being the closing dinner and drinks. @roelandp 's indications were to be at the restaurant at 7pm, so I planned the day as follows:

  • No alarm clock ⏰❌ Sleep in for a little bit
  • Hotel breakfast
  • Rooftop swimming pool
  • Lunch with Hiveians nearby
  • Shopping
  • Calmly start to pack my bags (hotel check out next morning)
  • Dinner

What happened:

  • Woke up around 9am
  • Read the telegram group messages (nothing urgent taking place)
  • Slept until 4pm 😱
  • Made coffee in the room
  • Ate buicuits in a rush
  • Furiously packed my bags
  • Shower
  • Dinner

A nice group of Hiveians were gathered in the hotel lobby and we walked to the restaurant. It was not far and the weather was good so it ended up being a good stroll.

The Bijan Restaurant is very well decorated and overall a comfortable place for more private dinners or to gather a group of friends. The waiters were helpful and the food simply amazing.

This photo alone was reason enough for me to come to Kuala Lumpur. From Portugal. On foot.

In the end @roelandp gave a farewell speech 👏 and @arcange a touching one 🤗
Every year, they talk in the end of the event showing us why Hivefest is more than a conference. They don't mean it. They just want to thank for the help and for showing up but it always becomes clear this community is somehow special and unique.

It was about time to get back to the hotel for the closing drinks in 1st floor balcony. We headed back when the streets were already buzzing. People partying everywhere, bars, terraces, music, lights... I remember thinking that in every other circumstance I'd like to stay there and enjoy, but in that moment I was about to get the final drinks with my friends in probably a year or so, and that made the quiet hotel balcony much more attractive.

Even before dinner, @cryptospa told me this is the worst part of Hivefest. He's right. It hurts to put an end in these days and say goodbye to my Hive friends. Some dedicate 100% to Hive but most don't. For the majority, Hivefest is a magical parallel universe where we spend a week per year. We never know who will attend next Hivefest but by now we kind of have a feeling it's our thing. Most times, we'll be able to be there. Close or far, we're getting there most of the times. So saying goodbye to all of you now hurts a bit less, since I developed the SYASS mentality, which perfectly fits us because we hope it's soon but we never know where. Powerful.

It's always sad to leave these events, but of course you will see everyone online. You've done well to get to so many fests. I will do another one some time.
