My name is Abel, and I've been reading the community posts for months, but only now have I decided to participate, since this week's prompt (#17) particularly invites me.
I'm a writer, and I'm at the age Saramago said is ideal to start: 40.
But it was about 10 years ago that I got my tattoos. Now, with two teenagers at home, this is a topic that has come up quite frequently at dinner: tattoos.
Luckily, their mother and I have raised them in a way that allows them to be reasoned with. The thing is, my wife doesn't like the idea of them getting tattoos, but I can't forbid them, since I have two.
The first one I got was this one.
When I spoke to them, I told them that if they wanted a tattoo, the first thing they had to do was choose what they were going to get. Whatever they got tattooed had to have a significant meaning for them.
Meaningful enough to carry on their body for the rest of their lives.
From there, I got them to think more.
In my case, my first tattoo was the cover illustration of my first book, which, in turn, is the illustration for my first illustrated story.
In other words, it has a lot of meaning for me. The first book, for a writer, is like the first child: it's an unforgettable feeling. Unique.
My second tattoo is an ouroboros, the snake biting its tail. Only the design I chose was a dragon (since I write Fantasy), and instead of a circle, it's a circle twisted into an infinity symbol.
Because my greatest desire as a writer is to transcend, for my work to live on in time, into infinity.
The other important point is paying for the tattoos. If they want them, they'll have to pay for them out of their jobs.
Therefore, until they graduate from college, they won't be able to get them. This part was a cruel strategy on my part, I know.
But I did my part for them and my wife.
I think I've gotten the idea out of their heads... at least for now.
But when they decide to get a tattoo, at least they'll be prepared.

Mi nombre es Abel y llevo meses leyendo las publicaciones de la comunidad, pero solo ahora me animo a participar, ya que el prompt de esta semana (el #17) me invita, particularmente.
Soy escritor y estoy en la edad que Saramago decía que es la ideal para comenzar, los 40.
Pero hace aproximadamente 10 años fue que me hice mis tatuajes. Ahora, con dos adolescentes en casa, esto es un tema que ha salido con bastante frecuencia durante la cena: los tatuajes.
Por suerte, su madre y yo los hemos educado de manera que se pueda razonar con ellos. El asunto es que a mi esposa no le gusta la idea que ellos se tatúen, pero yo no puedo prohibírselo, ya que tengo dos.
El primero que me hice fue este.
Cuando hablé con ellos les dije que, si querían un tatuaje, lo primero es elegir bien qué se van a tatuar. Lo que sea que se tatúen, debe tener un significado importante para ellos.
Lo suficientemente importante como para llevarlo en su cuerpo toda su vida.
Ya por ahí, los hice pensar más.
En mi caso, mi primer tatuaje es la ilustración de cubierta de mi primer libro, que, a su vez, es la ilustración de mi primer cuento ilustrado.
O sea, tiene una gran importancia para mí. El primer libro, para un escritor, es como el primer hijo: es una sensación inolvidable. Única.
Mi segundo tatuaje es un ouroboros, la serpiente que se muerde la cola. Solo que el diseño que elegí fue el de un dragón (ya que escribo Fantasía) y en lugar de un círculo, es un círculo torcido en un símbolo de infinito.
Porque mi mayor deseo como escritor es trascender, que mi obra se mantenga viva en el tiempo, hasta el infinito.
El otro punto importante es pagarse los tatuajes. Si ellos los quieren, se los tendrán que pagar de su trabajo.
Por tanto, hasta que se gradúen de la universidad, no podrán hacerlo. Esta parte fue una estrategia cruel de mi parte, lo sé.
Pero así cumplí con ellos y con mi esposa.
Creo haberles quitado la idea de la cabeza... al menos por ahora.
Pero, cuando decidan tatuarse, al menos estarán preparados.
