The Christmas season is nearly over, gone, kaput and all too quickly, boxing up the tree, decorations and lights is very near. In 4 more days, Australian Standard Eastern Time I along with my fellow Queenslanders celebrate the start of 2022.
What will the New Year bring?
We do not know for sure what 2022 will bring us but are you open to a lucky idea? Let me tell you a mythical cake story of how eating one piece of Christmas cake equalling one lucky month. A little weird and somewhat crazy with absolutely no basis to it whatsoever, and probably created by a Country Women's Association, but did you eat Christmas cake? Were you told how lucky fruit cake is? Just think, eating 12 little slices of 12 Christmas cakes made by 12 different people and voila you have a chance of a whole year of good luck! Does that sound believable or doable?
Maybe, maybe not. There are no guarantees with psychics reading your future, giving you direction or confirmation and cake makers definitely do not have crystal balls or magic fairy wands. The only magic is the smiling welcome with yummy cake, the choice to sip on tea or coffee as you chat around the table with like minded friends. The secret of the good luck comes with sharing inner thoughts, feelings, hopes and aims eating, talking and listening. It is the power of sharing filling you with the with positive encouragement and aspirations, that miraculously stays inside you as you walk out the warm kitchen of friendship into the New Year. Just think that if you sit around 12 different tables with friends eating cake and drinking coffee/tea the year has to be good one.
Would any of my hive blogger friends like a piece of my Christmas fruit cake? I have been making them for a lot of years and I can assure you it is very tasty this year with the flavour of nearly every dried fruit imaginable and a few generous nips of Grand Marner.

The only time I have liked fruit cake was if I was in need of a sugar rush and that's all there was haha. However it's always been the store bought ones that can last for 10 years without going moldy. I would love to have a piece of your Grand Marnier infused, made with love fruit cake.
I have never heard of the good luck thing but the way you describe how it could happen, makes sense. Now all I have to do is find a like minded friend in person to share it with. All I need are 12 friends and 12 pieces of cake at 12 different tables. It's a nice fantasy. Happy festive season!
Hahaha, it is a nice fantasy and I have to admit I never quite manage to eat pieces of 12 different fruit cakes. But, my problem is that I don't always find too many homemade fruit cakes either.
I will say that I kept mine in the bottom of the linen cupboard for a month in the hot weather and no mould. I am not sure if it is cooler in this cupboard or the cake has too much Grand Mariner in it.
Aw, fruit cake, fairy dolls and ukelele.. you are the sweetest. All the best for the new year .. with all the sparkles, friendship and love.
Happy New Year to come @riverflows. I think I will be eating fruit cake into 20222 hahaha and hopefully in 11 different kitchens around a table talking away. Happy day to you. ⭐️
Lovely post @angiemitchell, I never made fruit cake this year, yours looks soo good. I'd love to try your recipe? I need some good luck this year, in fact the whole world needs it after the last 2 years!
What a gorgeous fairy doll🧚♀️
I would love to share the recipe @lizelle. It comes from the All-TIME FAVOURITES cookbook courtesy of The Australian Women's Weekly. I am sure it will bring some good luck and I wish I could sit at a table for a chat and a laugh. We are never too old for a fairy doll are we? Wishing you a happy day and hope you are well. 💜
