Everyday is definitely not a Sunday

Retirement conjures up a life of relaxation, rest, self initiated hobbies and travelling, the world is 'your oyster' in the minds of younger work colleagues and the adult kinds. They are not entirely wrong and not entirely right either. There is no black and white rule for retirees.

Plenty of silver haired retirees venture into all sorts of lifestyle business, purchase farms or have a complete life change living as wanderers in caravans. etc, and good on them for following their dreams. Whatever makes them happy, it is highly individual.

Choosing an overly busy working retirement life was not for us. So a move from one seaside place to another at the Sunshine Coast was our choice. It sounded just right for our lifestyle, relaxing and energetic with a blend of quiet alone time and busy family time. Perfect, everyday will be a Sunday was my thinking. How wrong was I?

Everyday is definitely not a Sunday. Life does not flow that way even in retirement; renovations, looking after grandchildren, unexpected chaotic mayhem with fridges, dishwashers, washing machines computers occur without warning and send us in a spiral of searching for replacements. These days are definitely not the relaxing Sundays I like.

Goodbye and appreciate you dropping in to read my post

But hey, I have time the next day to zen out and "om "in much needed balance. Feet up sipping chilled white wine looking at the flowers in the garden chills me out to make it feel like one of those Sundays I love in retirement. #alwaysaflower time with many thanks to the lovely @dsiwgle.

Oh no are you saying the golden years might actually come with a bit of tarnish as well? Now that I know this, can I have a redo from the very beginning? LOL. I wonder what I might change...

Haha @angiemitchell, talk about appliances breaking down, we had 3 in a row following power spikes, but they were also getting old just like us and the poor things couldn't take the shocks.
The question always is, should we repair or replace? Ok, so when it comes to us Silvers, there's no question when the knees or the hips go, it's definitely a repair job😂 but the appliances are a different story and will have us searching online or running from store to store if we decide to replace.
You're so right, retirement doesn't mean we sit on the beach or the patio all day long, in fact it's just become busier, but I'm loving it, much better than sitting behind a desk all day long😉
Lovely seeing you here on the Silver Bloggers🤗

Hahaha, I had an innate feeling that I was not on my own thinking that us retirees living carefree problem free lives. Hopefully our body parts keep up as I don't have time for recuperating😝
So agree living without work is the best and I certainly have never wanted to get up and go to the officer again either. Thank your welcome to the Silver Bloggers, I love the whole concept. Just need a nice coffee or tea over a good mid morning chin wag 🍮or perhaps a wine at sunset time.🥂

Parkinson's law - work expands to fill the time allotted. Of course, I have no idea on how it is to be a retiree, but I do know how it is to have days off, and I also very well know the feeling of "after I'm done with A, I will have plenty of time to deal with B, C and D". Like, a lot of responsibility was taken off my shoulders when my my wife and the youngest moved to Russia with me staying behind - I thought I would have so much time available, but ... no, I still struggle to get done with my 7.5 hours of work every day plus house work etc.

Due to certification processes and the GDPR laws (particularly the Schrems-II court case), my employer decided that I could not work from Russia. It was pretty bad communication, I had forgotten to tell my employer that I was going there (home office time ... who cares about such details), and my employer had forgotten to explicitly tell me about the new rules, so suddenly I found myself without work for a full month (very good timing, as I had just landed two projects). I had quite some ideas on what to do with all the "excess time", but of course ... there were no excess time, just being with the family took all my time.

My wife is also unemployed, but constantly busy.

Sounds like a nightmare and I am so sorry of the many barriers and hiccups that seem to be blocking your decisions. It must be extra hard to be separated from your wife and the youngest child let alone to be unemployed. Hope all is going to work out for you both.

Thank you for sharing the busyness of being a Silver here in our community!

Well, at least there is that chilled wine with your feet up moment, right? I think you would fade away if you had nothing but sun and fun. ;)

Here I was thinking life would eventually be carefree, where I could kick up my heels. I love your flowers. I do.
