Hello everyone, good morning. Today I am joining the wonderful initiative proposed by the Silver Bloggers community, entitled: The Silverbloggers Chronicles - Prompt #21 - Pastimes / Passions. It's a very interesting topic, and I was invited by my friend @belkyscabrera… I'd also love to extend the invitation to my friends @numa26, and @popurri.
“What are your favorite hobbies or passions from childhood?”
In this initiative, we are asked to talk about the games, passions, and hobbies from our childhood that we still have or continue to practice over time.
My childhood was divided into two beautiful stages: from birth to age 8, and from then on. I was born and raised in the family home with my uncles, my parents, and five cousins. I stayed there until I was 8 years old, when I went to live with my mom in another house, but close to the family home, so I grew up between the two. What did change was my playground and the ways I enjoyed my childhood.
The family home had a large yard that could fit about five more houses, and it was full of fruit trees, especially mango trees. Our parents built us swings and play areas. There was grass everywhere, two small squares with paths and benches, covered pens with chickens and ducks, several pets, and wide corridors where we could play whatever we wanted.
My playmate was my younger cousin. I couldn't find any photos of our childhood in my album because they must be in the family albums, but he is the boy next to me in this photo from my 19th birthday. Our games were limited to the surroundings and inside the family home because we lived on a main avenue and it was dangerous to go out on the street. In this current photo, you can see the two family houses facing the avenue. In my childhood, there was only one, the one on the left, now quite deteriorated by time and neglect.
Our indoor pastimes consisted of board games, and we had a shelf full of options: Monopoly, Ludo, Parcheesi, puzzles, memory games, Spanish and poker cards, checkers, chess, Scrabble, bingo, among others... In addition, my aunt would play word games with us, such as charades, stop, and hangman, which also helped us enrich our vocabulary.
I remember that in the hallway of the house, the floor was granite and had very large squares, and that's where we played hopscotch, which consisted of jumping with a bottle cap until completing the seven squares and the rest, very similar to rayuela or avioncito, which we also drew in the garage with chalk. In the yard, we played tag, hide-and-seek, and freeze tag. It was a very healthy childhood for all of us.
When I had to leave the big house, my cousin was the most affected because I was his playmate, so he would come to my new house to play, or I would sometimes stay at the family home. But little by little, over time, my childhood changed as I met new children who were the children of our neighbors, and he made new playmates among his schoolmates. My games were no longer inside the house; for the first time, I could play in the street, in a parking lot near the house. All the children would gather there to play after school and on weekends.
Our pastimes were no longer board games; we mostly played ball, jumped rope, raced, played tag, hide and seek, hopscotch, or airplane, and rode bikes, rollerblades, or skateboards. We played guessing games, and charades were also included. And so I entered adolescence, where games and pastimes changed, and girls began to have different tastes than boys. The only thing we played together was volleyball. The rest of the time, the girls would gather on the porch of someone's house and spend hours enjoying writing the lyrics to popular songs while listening to cassettes, writing poems, making scrapbooks with memories, drawing, coloring, and even knitting with two needles, which became fashionable in the 1980s. I still have some of those notebooks full of verses and colors.
That's how the children and teenagers of my generation played and enjoyed their free time, and I passed many of those customs on to my children, who played many of my childhood games with their cousins and neighbors. As time went on, we maintained the tradition of having board games at home to enjoy on weekends, and in my case, most of the word games and charades became part of the teaching methods I used with my students. Likewise, my passion for writing verses during my adolescence continued, and that's why writing poems remains one of my greatest passions today.

Hola a todos, muy buenos días. Hoy me integro a la hermosa iniciativa propuesta por la comunidad Silver Bloggers, titulada: The Silverbloggers Chronicles - Prompt #21 - Pastimes / Passions. Es un tema muy interesante, y fui invitada por mi amiga @belkyscabrera… igualmente me encantaría extender la invitación a mis amigas @numa26, y @popurri.
”¿Cuáles son tus pasatiempos o pasiones favoritos desde la infancia?”
En esta iniciativa nos piden relatar acerca de los juegos, pasiones y pasatiempos de nuestra infancia que aún conservamos o seguimos practicando a través del tiempo.
Mi infancia transcurrió en dos hermosas etapas, desde mi nacimiento hasta los 8 años, y desde allí en adelante. Nací y crecí en la casa familiar junto a mis tíos, mis padres y cinco primos, allí permanecí hasta que cumplí los 8 años porque me fui a vivir con mi mamá a otra casa, pero cerca de la casa de la familia, por lo que crecí entre ambas. Lo que sí cambió, fue mi sitio de juegos y las maneras de disfrutar la infancia.
En la casa familiar había un gran patio donde cabían unas cinco casas más, y estaba repleto de árboles frutales, sobre todo matas de mango. Nuestros padres nos construyeron columpios y zonas de juego, había grama por todos lados, dos plazoletas con caminitos y bancos, corrales techados con gallinas, y patos, varias mascotas, y corredores amplios donde podíamos jugar lo que quisiéramos.
Mi compañero de juegos era mi primo menor, no encontré en mi álbum fotos de nuestra infancia porque deben estar en los álbumes de la familia, pero él es el chico que aparece a mi lado en esta foto de mi cumpleaños 19. Nuestros juegos se limitaban a los alrededores e interior de la casa familiar ya que vivíamos en una avenida principal y era peligroso salir a la calle. En esta foto de la actualidad pueden ver las dos casas familiares frente a la avenida, en mi infancia sólo había una, la del lado izquierdo, hoy en día ya bastante deterioradas por el tiempo, y el abandono.
Nuestros pasatiempos dentro de la casa se resumían a juegos de mesa, teníamos un estante lleno de opciones: monopolio, ludo, parchis, rompecabezas, memorias, cartas españolas y de póker, damas, ajedrez, escrable, bingo, entre otros… y aparte, mi tía nos ponía juegos de palabras como charadas, stop y el ahorcado, y de esa manera también íbamos enriqueciendo nuestro vocabulario.
Recuerdo que en el corredor de la casa, el piso era de granito y tenía formas de cuadros muy amplios, y ahí jugábamos la semana, que consistía en ir brincando con una tapita hasta completar los 7 cuadros y el descanso, muy parecido a la rayuela o avioncito, que también dibujábamos en el garaje con tizas. En el patio jugábamos hasta metras, escondite, y paralizado. Fue una infancia muy sana para todos.
Cuando me tuve que ir de la casa grande, el más afectado fue mi primo porque yo era su compañera de juegos, así que se venía a mi nueva a casa a jugar, o yo me quedaba algunas veces en la casa familiar. Pero poco a poco con el tiempo, mi infancia cambió al conocer a nuevos niños que eran hijos de nuestros vecinos, y él fue teniendo nuevos amigos de juego entre sus compañeros de colegio. Ya mis juegos no eran dentro de la casa, por primera vez podía jugar en la calle, en un estacionamiento que había cerca de la casa. Allí nos reuníamos todos los niños a jugar después de la escuela, y los fines de semana.
Nuestros pasatiempos ya no eran de los juegos mesa, en su mayoría jugábamos a la pelota, saltábamos la cuerda, hacíamos carreras, jugábamos paralizado, escondite, la rayuela o avioncito, y corríamos bicicleta, patines o patineta, hacíamos adivinanzas, y las charadas también estaban incluidas. Y así fui entrando a la adolescencia en donde los juegos y pasatiempos cambiaron, y las niñas comenzamos a tener gustos diferentes a los varones. Lo único que jugábamos juntos, era voleibol, el resto del tiempo, las hembras nos reuníamos en el porche de alguna casa y durante mucho tiempo disfrutábamos escribir las letras de las canciones de moda mientras escuchábamos algún casette, escribir versos, hacer libretas con recuerdos, dibujar, colorear, incluso, hasta tejer en dos agujas que se puso de moda en los años 80. Aún guardo algunas de esas libretas llenas de versos y colores.
De esa manera los niños y adolescentes de mi época jugábamos y disfrutábamos nuestro tiempo libre, y muchas de esas costumbres se las transmití a mis hijos quienes jugaban con sus primitos y vecinos muchos de mis juegos de infancia. Con el pasar del tiempo, conservamos en la casa la costumbre de tener juegos de mesa para disfrutar los fines de semana, y en mi caso personal, la mayoría de los juegos de palabras, y charadas, se convirtieron en parte de la didáctica de aprendizaje que implementaba con mis alumnos, así como también la pasión de escribir versos en mi adolescencia, siguió su curso y por eso hoy en día sigue presente, siendo escribir poemas, una de mis mayores pasiones.

Tu historia ha sido un viaje a gran parte de mi juventud, puesto que en mi infancia tuve otros pasatiempos. Me temo que por la diferencia de años, aunque también escuché música en casetes, pero como te digo, durante mi juventud. Los juegos de mesa me encantan, escribir canciones, etc. Hay muchas coincidencias que me han llevado lejos...

A pesar de los cambios inesperados en medio de mi infancia, como el divorcio de mis padres y la mudanza de la casa grande, supe adaptarme y disfrutar de los juegos en ambos escenarios, y gracias a Dios, dentro de ese trayecto tan determinante en la vida de cualquier ser humano que es la infancia y la adolescencia, me encontré con mucha gente bonita que me facilitó el paseo.
También eran años muy sanos, los juegos eran los más tradicionales, y entre primos y amiguitos pudimos formar un grupo que hacía un buen engranaje, porque nos gustaban las mismas cosas. Me encanta saber que coincidimos en muchas cosas, y que disfrutaste este paseo... espero leerte pronto. Saludos y abrazos!!❤️ ❤️
What an awesome response @annafenix! You reminded me of so many games, especially board games like Monopoly, and the many games made up. It's great that you're using some of those games to your students! Lovely photos too.

We enjoyed a world without technology where we had to be very creative to find healthy ways to entertain ourselves, and in a way, it was also important to grow up in a home with many children (my cousins), even though I was an only child. You have no idea how much fun the educational activities are with the students, implementing the "stop" game; they learn so many new words that way. It was a pleasure to participate... blessings and hugs.

Games sound similar to some we played growing up, garden full of fruit trees, many chores done we could play to our hearts content. Board games for rainy days living in a country of sunshine most time was spent outdoors.
