La infancia es una aventura, desde que estamos niños nos encanta aprender todas esas cosas que hacen nuestros hermanos mayores, los primos o amigos; vamos de un lado a otro buscando hacer travesuras, divertirnos, reírnos, correr, jugar, saltar; cosas de las cuales ya de grandes no nos acordamos porque nos ocupamos en ser serios y responsables.
Hoy les vengo a contar lo que me sucedió cuando era una niña de 12 años, que jamás había tomado una bicicleta.
Childhood is an adventure. From the moment we are children, we love learning all the things our older siblings, cousins, or friends do. We run around looking for mischief, having fun, laughing, running, playing, jumping—things we don't remember when we grow up because we are busy being serious and responsible.
Today I'm going to tell you what happened to me when I was a 12-year-old girl who had never ridden a bike before.
Resulta q por ser una niña que vivía en el campo jamás había montado una bicicleta, en esa época los padres tenían familias numerosas y no alcanzaba el dinero para comprar cosas tan costosas.
Así fue hasta que a mis 12 años Sali a conocer el mundo y me llevaron a casa de mis primos donde conocí a Gladys, mi compañera de juegos y travesuras.
No se si en sus pueblos existía el alquiler de bicicletas, pero aca en Colon sí; por eso los niños los fines de semana les pedían a sus padres algo de dinero para alquilar por una o dos horas una bicicleta para pasear y jugar un rato.
It turns out that, as a girl who lived in the countryside, I had never ridden a bicycle. At that time, parents had large families and didn't have enough money to buy such expensive things.
That was until I was 12 years old. I went out to see the world and was taken to my cousins' house, where I met Gladys, my playmate and partner in mischief.
I don't know if bike rentals existed in their towns, but here in Colon they did. That's why on weekends, children would ask their parents for some money to rent a bike for an hour or two to ride around and play for a while.
Recuerdo que una tarde de domingo Gladys y yo nos fuimos y alquilamos una bicicleta para las dos, aquí ninguna sabia mas que lo básico, montarse, pedalear y frenar, pero aún no teníamos el control total del equilibrio.
Nosotras hacíamos como los padres cuando le sostienen la bicicleta al niño por la parte posterior y lo va llevando hasta que lo suelta para ver como le va. Pues ese día sucedió lo inesperado, sin padres ni hermanos mayores, solo ella y yo con la calle sola, toda para nosotras, nos preparamos, repasamos todas las reglas del principiante y ¡ZUASSS! ¡Me soltó!
En un principio iba bien, pero de repente perdí el control y me fui contra la cuneta de una casa y mi hombro se estrello contra la pared. Resultado “estrellada total”.
I remember one Sunday afternoon Gladys and I went out and rented a bicycle for the two of us. None of us knew more than the basics: how to get on, pedal, and brake, but we still didn't have complete control of our balance.
We did what parents do when they hold their child's bike from behind and ride along until they let go to see how they do. Well, that day the unexpected happened. With no parents or older siblings around, just her and me with the street all to ourselves, we got ready, reviewed all the beginner's rules, and BAM! She let go!
At first, it was going well, but suddenly I lost control and crashed into the gutter of a house, and my shoulder slammed into the wall. The result was a “total wreck.”
El susto fue enorme, como pudimos levantamos el choque y salimos de allí corriendo para no pagar daños a propiedad ajena. Las instrucciones fueron dadas, yo me iba a la cama y ella iba a entregar esa bicicleta. Ese día no le dijimos nada a nadie, pero al siguiente día todos notaron que a Carolina le pasaba algo extraño y no nos tocó mas remedio que decir la verdad.
The shock was enormous. As soon as we could, we got up from the crash and ran away so we wouldn't have to pay for damage to someone else's property. Instructions were given: I was going to bed and she was going to return the bike. That day we didn't say anything to anyone, but the next day everyone noticed that something strange was happening to Carolina and we had no choice but to tell the truth.
Me llevaron al medico y yo estaba muy asustada porque me habían dicho que me iban a enyesar y así fue.
Diagnostico medico: Clavícula partida en todo el medio, es decir un hueso montado encima del otro.
Tratamiento: inmovilización del brazo para que el hueso soldara totalmente solo.
They took me to the doctor, and I was very scared because they had told me they were going to put me in a cast, and that's what happened.
Medical diagnosis: broken collarbone right down the middle, meaning one bone was on top of the other.
Treatment: immobilization of the arm so that the bone could heal completely on its own.
Así estuve por un par de meses, para completar mi tragedia me dio la enfermedad de viruela y mi cara estaba marcada por todos lados, el yeso se partido en la mitad y me lo quitaba como un chaleco y para terminar mi cabeza quedo doblaba por un buen tiempo hacia un lado porque al tenerla así me disminuía el dolor, así que parecía una cosa rara con yeso, viruela y cabeza doblada.
Pero, en fin, el tiempo paso y antes de que me quitaran el yeso Gladys y yo volvimos a alquilar bicicleta y aprendimos juntas, ya después no alquilábamos una sino dos y nos íbamos por todas las calles de mi hermoso pueblo haciendo lo que un niño mejor sabe hacer ¡JUGAR; JUGAR Y JUGAR!
That's how I was for a couple of months. To complete my tragedy, I got smallpox and my face was scarred all over. The cast broke in half and I took it off like a vest. To top it all off, my head was bent to one side for a long time because that position reduced the pain, so I looked like a strange creature with a cast, smallpox, and a bent head.
But, anyway, time passed, and before they removed the cast, Gladys and I rented bicycles again and learned together. After that, we didn't rent just one, but two, and we rode through all the streets of my beautiful town doing what children do best: PLAY, PLAY, AND PLAY!

STOPDe verdad que eras una niña bien tremenda, esa era unas infancias sanas, donde los muchachos disfrutaban mucho, no es como hoy en día con el acceso a la tecnología, que hacen que algunos niños sean sedentarios, saludos, fue una bonita experiencia y divertida.
JEJJEJE, si mucho. eso era lo emocionante de nuestra infancia, q diferencia a los niños de ahora
