Up again early this morning. Its about 2:45am and sitting here with my cat Simba. He is a pill, he hates being petted anywhere but his head, so being the cat slave I am, I ablige while catching up on some news and thinking about the day that was and to come.
Yesterday was a wash with a gully washer of rain all day. We had some reall bad rain fall just south of us, with many places flodding. Luckily we didn't get as much as they did, but suffice it to say my backyard is a swamp now. We needed it though because it has been very dry this summer.
Got some semi-crappy news during my call with the VA pharmacist as well yesterday when reviewing my medications. It seems my glucose levels just aren't responding to my current meds, and I must now take a daily shot. Not a fan! Like my son said, better get to walking faster and further Dad. So thats what this old Jarhead is going to do.
Good news is today starts one of my favorite times of the year...Toys for Tots. We are putting out collection boxes today to start collecting toys. Me and one of the old Marine Vet buddies are going to be driving around and dropping them off at different businesses. From here on out we will occasionally go back and collect toys as the boxes get full. Come Christmas time the toys will be distributed out to children in need.
Like I said, it's one of my favorite times of year. It gives me the feeling of being able to continue to serve others and I love that. The feeling of knowing that a kid that normally goes without is going to get some new toys and the smile they will have on their face.
It is also good exercise for me to get out of the house and be with others and socialize. Also, it is good physical exercise as well. We are usually hungry by the time we are done and plan to grab lunch after today. Not sure where, but for sure going to have to watch what I eat today. I usually watch what I eat at home for the most part, but when we go out it is a free for all LOL.
Well, back to petting Simba's head, you all have a great day.
Thanks for reading,
Joe

That both sounds chill 😺🐈 and very rewarding... Great thing to do!
It is, we just drive around talking, dropping off boxes and enjoying each others company.
Get out there walking harder and longer, it's good for you. Simba appreciates you in the early morning all year long, but Toys for Tots is a lot of fun. A great chance to help out the little ones who are disadvantaged!
Insulin shots don't sound like much fun, hopefully you can drive down those levels through exercise. Easier said than done though!
Yeah, I have been really been whoopin it on. We have been having a really good time with T4T. Just a couple old Marines out on the town. KNowing the little guys and gals will have new toys for Christmas really makes me happy too.
Yeah, I've been trying to eat better, but that hasn't helped much. Hopefully the increased exercise will help along with the insulin to drive them down and I can eventually come off the daily shots.
Sticking to my diet is tough, but I've been improving week by week. I'm far from "fighting" condition but if I can slim down closer to it I'll feel a lot better! lol
I understand completely about it being tough sticking to a diet. I’ve given up on the dream of ever being in fighting condition, I just want to get healthier at this point.
Best of luck to you with your diabetes stuff. I know some people who have it and I know it can be hard to manage. I would not be a fan of having to take a shot each day either. I hate needles in general, so that would be really hard for me.
Needles don’t bother me much at all so it’s just the inconvenience.
That's so noble and kind of you to be planning Christmas for those in need, I'm sure the kids will appreciate it
ah, its just doing something to give back to the community and makes me feelz good. I just hope they enjoy their Christmas and have a smile on their face.
