Currently it is almost 1:00 AM as I type this. Later this morning the electirican should be here to start doing the work I spoke of in my last post. I would normally try to be sleeping by now, but I decided to watch MOnday Night Football with the Detriot lIons versus the Baltimore Ravens. Of course I needed some yummies to go with it. So, had some leftover over hot wings from Sunday's games.
Yep, you guessed it! They didn't agree with my stomach. Now I am running laps to the bathroom every few minutes. You think an experienced hot wing eater like me would know better than to eat leftovers, but here we are.
Anyway...
As I spoke about in the last post, I needed to move some things around in the unfinished part of the basement. That is where the electrical panel is where some of the electrical work will be done. We had boxes and stuff stacked up around and in front of it.
The wife went down with me so she could clean out the litter box for the cats and change the filter on the A/C blower. As she was doing that I started moving totes, boxes and assorted things out of the way of the electrical panel. We both quickly started identifying several items we no longer needed.
That part of our basement, like my garagee, had become a catch-all room for broken and unused items. We had empty cardboard boxes from Amazon, an old broken clothes drying rack and even a tall cat scratching tree. There is more stuff that we need to go through, but just that stuff can free up some space.
After the electricians are gone I plan to get down there and get rid of the more obvious stuff via donation, recycling or trash. We will go through most of the other closed up totes later on to see what can be let go.
THen there is the garage! Now that fall is upon us and cooler weather should be here eventually, I need to get it cleaned out and straighted up, but that will be another post.
Anyway, hope you all are having a good week so far.
P.S. The pic is after we straigntened things up. Imagine what is what like before. We have lots of work to do.
Thanks for reading,
Joe

My shed, used to be an ancient garage, is ten times worse. I keep leaving it off every year. A civilization may develop by the time I ever get to it.
!LOL
That is hillarious. I feel you though. I have been putting off dealing with my garage for over a year now. My health is finally at a point where I am feeling like doing it, just waiting for the weather to cooperate.
HOpe you are doing well friend.
I hope that stomach is feeling better. My parents basement used to be the same way filled with stuff much of which wasn't needed anymore. Here I don't have a basement so one less place to randomly throw stuff. You may look at eBay for some of the items, you would be surprised what some people are willing to pay for your old "junk". I hope the electricians aren't too expensive, I've seen some charge more than a brain surgeon would! lol
Yeah, stomach is better. Thanks for asking.
It is just that one part of my basement so it drives me crazy. Most of the basement is a finsihed. The section pictured is the only unfinished part and will stay that way due to the sump pump being there. SO it will remain for storage.
As far as eBay, the stuff is mostly things like old clothes, decorations and literally JUNK. The electrical work wasn't expensive for todays standards. I just wish I trusted myself or else I could have probably did at least half of it and saved me a little money.
Gotta love a bit of purging, stuff that is! Not food items that make us sick :D
Feels good to take stock of things and figure out what can be tossed, donated or sold. Really gets some cleaning vibes going on! I have to do that with another one of my closets soon, it ended up filling up with STUFF and you know how that goes..
I would love to purge a lot of stuff, but the wife is too nostalgic and likes to hang on to things too much.
It does feel good, it will feel great when I can take care of the stuff in my basement and garage. Yes, I know how that goes and it happens quickly if we don't check ourselves.
We have a bedroom in our basement that we used to call the office, but now I think my wife refers to it as the junk room. Since my brother in law started managing a donation shop, we have been moving a lot of our unused stuff to him for that. It works out well for us and things are a little bit cleaner. Good luck with the work today!
My office/den looks like a junk room right now because of work being done in it, but should be ship shape within a week or two. That is pretty convenient that your bro-in-law has a shop to take some stuff. We have a thrift store down the road to take stuff to. Junk is the limitation. We have to fit it in our city trash can. So it has to be spread out and if large, broken in pieces. My biggest problem has been my health. Now that I am feeling better, it all just seems overwhelming to make it all square again.
I think most all of us have a room like that probably. My wife thinks the garage is messy too, but honestly I think it isn't very bad.
I feel you on the numerous trips to bathroom. There's a few things that have that affect on me as well. One being Papa John's pizza.
I cleaned out my garage about a year ago looks ready again. The basement needs it as well. I think these two places get the least amount attention. When they need it they really need it, haha. Take care
I love Papa Johns. It doesn't really do that to me thankfully. Yeah, here the garage and basement seem to catch everything. Especially since my son moved out, it caught everything he left behind and couldn't fit into his apartment. You take care as well.
It must be there sauce no other pizza does it to me. I have tried a few times thinking maybe it was something else but same results. It tasted good I like but not worth the results it yields, haha
Yeh, some people just handle food differently.
That is a nice sturdy looking metal electrical switchboard. Most of our ones out in Australia are small and plastic nowadays. We also are supposed to have all the cabling more supported and is not suppose to be hanging in accessible places. Ha you tell I am a retired Electrician !LOL
YEah, it is a nice box I guess. That part of my basement is unfisnished so most of the cabling is exposed. Plus I was doing plumbing work a while badck and had to move some of it to do some work on the pipes which is why you some some really lagging. Eventually I plan to tie and tac most of it up, but it just isn't a priority right now. Retired electrician, well I could have utilized you this week :-)
My parents had a house once with an unfinished basement like that which become the catch all for mostly crap! When they moved it all went with them into one of their garages.
Have you tried to sell some of it, you would be surprised now what people will buy! Hope that stomach got settled and all that electrical work gets sorted.
Our basement is mostly finished except that one section pictured, so it becomes the storage. Most of the stuff is clothes, decorations, and real JUNK. So, I doubt anyone will actually buy them. Stomach is all good, thanks for asking. Yep, electrical work is all done finally. Hope your having a great week,.
garage are supposed to be messy, i think. no need to worry, yours is perfectly normal.
I guess. But I dont like messy. It drivfes me crazy.
