Lately, I have been spending a good bit of time reorganizing my writing files.
When I say writing files, I'm referring to a number of folders I have — actual paper and cardboard folders with stuff in them — each covering a separate area of writing that I'm interested in.

One of the things I realized as I was going through all this stuff is that I've actually brought very little of my "old" writing here to Hive.
Do you see, I used to keep a lot of specialized niche blogs that primarily covered a single fairly narrow band topic: Stamp collecting, specifically stamps from Scandinavia; Beachcombing and specifically sea glass and pottery; Art and the marketing of art; The psychology of personality: The psychology of sensory processing sensitivity; ADHD and autism and the way it affects our lives.
As you can probably detect it's a pretty diverse portfolio of stuff, very little of which falls under the sort of popular headings that bring millions of views to online influencers.
As I revisited these things I was reminded of something one of my creative writing teachers at University once said: ”it's better to be everything to a modest but dedicated flock of followers than it is to be a passing fancy to millions.”
I suppose it's one of those things that brings me back around to the title of this post: why do people even bother to write things, particularly in this day and age where we have AI and most people communicate in 256 character tweets and 30-second TikTok reels?
Recently I received an announcement in my e-mail that one of the writing sites where I originally started creating online content for payment (advertising revenue sharing) has shuttered after 19 years.
Like many venues it is in large part a victim of our modern train of thought which relies increasingly heavily on AI, and in which very few people are interested in gaining in-depth expertise about anything.
And with crypto being in the toilet, and Hive in particular being in the toilet, I got to thinking about writing and why I write and what I might do to bring some of these niches over here not because they're popular or likely to catch the eyes of curators, but because they might actually bring and occasional writer or two over here.
I don't even know if I have much of a following on Facebook and X/Twitter anymore. I'm even co-admin of several groups on Facebook and I have slowly started becoming a little more active again. I guess part of my point here is that in order to benefit from mainstream social media you have to have an active presence on mainstream social media. Otherwise you just come across as a spammer.
Is there much point in doing things *"properly" in such an environment? I honestly don't know... after all, people have been declaring that "blogging is dead" for many years, already.

I guess it is just a matter of taking on step at a time...
Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful Sunday!
