Hello everyone on #hive! Today I'm sharing my wishes for the New Year 2026 from my beloved Venezuela.
As I write this, that mix of nostalgia and hope that December leaves us with is still in the air. Here in Venezuela, we know that the New Year is more than just a change of calendar; it's a ritual of emotional survival, a deep breath before we keep swimming.
This post won't be your typical speech about world peace. Instead, I want to talk about what truly makes us human, about those subtle changes that begin in the square meter we inhabit, in the glance we exchange with our neighbor, and in the patience we have with ourselves in front of the mirror.

I envision a 2026 where we foster an education that goes beyond memorizing facts, one that questions our present. Mientras escribo esto, todavía se siente en el aire esa mezcla de nostalgia y esperanza que nos deja diciembre. Aquí en Venezuela, sabemos que el cambio de año más de un cambio de calendario; es un ritual de supervivencia emocional, un respiro profundo antes de seguir nadando.
Esta publicación no será el típico discurso sobre paz mundial. En vez de eso, quiero hablar de lo que realmente nos hace humanos, de esos cambios sutiles que empiezan en el metro cuadrado que habitamos, en la mirada que cruzamos con el vecino y en la paciencia que nos tenemos frente al espejo.
Uno de mis mayores deseos es que redescubramos la curiosidad infantil que perdemos con los años. Piensen en esto: Cuando éramos niños, todo era una aventura, desde escalar un árbol en los llanos de Venezuela hasta preguntar por qué el cielo es azul. Imagino un 2026 donde fomentemos una educación más allá de memorizar hechos, nos cuestione nuestro presente ¿Y si los niños venezolanos tuvieran más acceso a herramientas para experimentar con la ciencia y el arte, solo por el puro placer de descubrir? ¿Y si volviéramos a ser niños?

Another key wish is that we strengthen genuine human connections. Here, where families gather around an arepa or several hallacas to talk about everything, we see how technology sometimes distances us instead of uniting us. I long for us to prioritize authentic relationships: face-to-face conversations, not just the "likes" on social media.
May we recover the capacity for radical listening, for being silent to understand the other person, for looking each other in the eye in the supermarket line with curiosity and not suspicion.
May we once again value the warmth of a physical embrace, beyond the coldness of the screen.

Aquí, donde las familias se reúnen alrededor de una arepa o con varias hallacas, para hablar de todo, se ve cómo a veces la tecnología nos aleja en lugar de unirnos. Anhelo que prioricemos las relaciones auténticas: Conversaciones cara a cara, no solo la de los “Me gusta” en redes.
Que recuperemos la capacidad de escucha radical, de guardar silencio para entender al otro, de mirarnos a los ojos en la cola del supermercado con curiosidad y no con recelo. Que volvamos a valorar el calor del abrazo físico, más allá de la frialdad de la pantalla.
También deseo que este 2026 sea el año en que prioricemos el cuidado personal como una revolución. En Venezuela, hemos lidiado con desafíos que nos han hecho resilientes, pero es hora de ir más allá. Quiero que invirtamos en mente y cuerpo, para sobrevivir y también para prosperar. Y parte de eso es aprender a gestionar nuestra vulnerabilidad sin miedo. Que tengamos la valentía de ser suaves en un mundo duro, de hablar de nuestra salud mental con naturalidad ¿Qué tal si el verdadero "superpoder" no es la fuerza, sino esa capacidad de descansar y decir "hoy no puedo con todo"?

This leads us to another wish: that we regain respect for both our own and others' time. My wish is that we rediscover the value of contemplative leisure, of sitting down to enjoy a cup of coffee without looking at our phones, simply savoring the sunset. That we humanize our schedules and not feel guilty for pausing to breathe or simply doing nothing.
Of course, I cannot ignore the issue of equity. As a Venezuelan, I have witnessed inequalities firsthand, and I hope we work to reduce them through everyday, practical actions: fair opportunities, support for local entrepreneurs, and a focus on diversity that enriches us all. Why not support a product made by our neighbor?

Esto nos lleva a otro anhelo: Que recuperemos el respeto por el tiempo ajeno y el propio. Mi deseo es que volvamos a valorar el ocio contemplativo, el sentarnos a tomarnos un guayoyo sin mirar el teléfono, disfrutando simplemente del atardecer. Que humanicemos nuestros horarios y no nos sintamos culpables por detenernos a respirar o hacer simplemente nada.
Por supuesto, no puedo ignorar el tema de la equidad. Como venezolano, he visto de cerca las desigualdades, y deseo que trabajemos en reducirlas con acciones cotidianas y prácticas: Oportunidades justas, apoyo a emprendedores locales y un enfoque en la diversidad que enriquezca. ¿Por qué no apoyar un producto hecho por nuestro vecino?

My greatest wish is that we heal the social fabric through humanity, not judgment. In Venezuela, we have been through so much, and sometimes pain makes us build invisible walls. I hope that 2026 will be the year we tear down those walls with bricks of understanding. May we be able to disagree without attacking each other, recognizing the other's humanity before their ideology. Because in the end, green, red, white, we are all one nation, and together we can recover and build this nation.
From my corner of Venezuela, I wish for a year where humanity focuses on growing, connecting, and enjoying this crazy adventure of existence. These aren't things that can be bought, but they are the promise of being a little more human, a little warmer, and a little more present.

Mi deseo más grande es que logremos sanar el tejido social desde la humanidad y no desde el juicio. En Venezuela hemos pasado por mucho, y a veces el dolor nos hace levantar muros invisibles. Deseo que 2026 sea el año en que derribemos esos muros con ladrillos de comprensión. Que podamos discrepar sin agredirnos, reconociendo la humanidad del otro antes que su ideología. Porque al final, verdes, rojos, blancos somos una misma nación y entre todos podemos recuperar y construir esta nación.
Desde mi rincón venezolano, deseo un año donde la humanidad se enfoque en crecer, conectar y disfrutar esta loca aventura de existir.
