3 GENERATIONS OF BASKETBALL TRADITION --- EASTER SUNDAY 2021 -- and WHENEVER WE GET TOGETHER.

in Silver Bloggers3 years ago (edited)

A good part of our life has been centered around athletics and competitive sports. Having one person or another participating in either football, baseball, softball, volleyball, wrestling, golf, cross-country running and various track and field events, has always provided us with so much quality time with our family.

The one game I didn't mention above was the game of basketball. Hoops has always been the family's game of choice, when it's time for lots of fun.
Both the @bigsweed and I still enjoy sports of all kinds, even if just as spectators, and hoops is still king.
I always fancied sports, but I loved the players.

Now I see my grand children playing and I see the fire that they exhibit on the court and I just want to cheer. Competitive spirit lives within us, it's in our gut, you either have it or you don't. But to be a real competitor you have to have the burn. It's about having fun, which breeds desire and a will to always do your best.

Here we are on several different occasions, playing a game that has strengthened the very fabric of our family.

IMG_8405.JPG

If @thebigsweed could still move as fast as his son, his image would also be blurry.
Matter of fact, it looks as though he's posing for the picture.

IMG_4951.JPG

At times, being competitive is a good thing , and playing sports teaches you that.

IMG_4953.JPG

You've got to roll with the punches! After knocking her brother Owen to the ground, my hubby had to call a foul on his granddaughter. We had to go to the video tape to see if it was a flagrant foul, warranting ejection from the game. LOL!

IMG_4956.JPG

This simple game, basketball as it is known today, "was created by Dr. James Naismith in December 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts, to condition young athletes during cold months. Naismith was a physical education instructor at YMCA International Training School (now known as Springfield College) in Springfield, Massachusetts."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_basketball#:

It's a game that can be played with no one else but yourself. But it's also a game that can be enjoyed by many. In this case we are having a ball with family and my bff Kathy.
Here you can see her following around my granddaughter, the one bouncing the big orange balloon.

IMG_4960.JPG

You have to love the simplicity in the joy of a balloon to a five year old.

IMG_4946.JPG

We play for bragging rights.

IMG_4959.JPG

Fouls are part of the game. If my memory serves me right, 😁 I believe my granddaughter swished both of her foul shots, after being mauled by her younger brother.

IMG_4962.JPG

Here's my granddaughter shooting a couple more free-throws, this time her brother almost took her arm off.
He's a boy, rough and tumble as they go, plus he's three years younger, Oh well.

IMG_8398.JPG

You should have seen the big guy play hoops back in the day.
I've got to give him credit, whenever he hears that the kids are coming for a visit, he's out there blowing off the basketball court.
The guy moves a little silvernow slower now, but the Sweed can still shoot.

IMG_8400.JPG

Now he's about to show off, spinning the ball on his finger for a minute always gets the kids attention. The best part is when he switches from one finger to the next, keeping the ball spinning like crazy, with his other hand.

IMG_8401.JPG

This is why you practice. When it's time to play, it's good to be prepared.

Participating in athletics can teach you many things.
Much of what you learn, can be carried forward.
Team play, sportsmanship, listening, being coachable, leadership skills, and being respectful of others are just a few good lessons that will be needed later on in life.

Kids need to get off of their devices and play more.
Playing = Exercise, which is a good thing!

IMG_9623.JPG

Tears come to my eyes when I see them on the court.

IMG_9618.JPG

IMG_9619.JPG

All of that practice here at the farm and 10 fold back in Jersey sure paid off for our granddaughter Ava. She made the traveling team. She will wear #3, the same # that has been worn for three generations now.

Besides all of the positives that I have mentioned in this #silverbloggers post, the best part of it all is that sports brings FAMILY out in droves. The folks seen in this photo, up to the space where a gap in the chairs can be seen, are just part of the my family. We are all here to support my grandson. It's in these simple get togethers that I find so much joy.

For me this is like hitting the JACKPOT.

IMG_9622.JPG

If you will allow me to give you a little advice, always wear the best gear!!!!!

Best Wishes,

Jackie O'Silver

Ah Lady Robin, so you had your eyes on the big guy since high school.
He scored a master shoot when he landed you methinks.

Two games I have never played, basketball and baseball. Basketball is big here, but for the ladies and there is even a baseball club right here in our town, but I am slower than the big guy, as since my bike accident in 1980 I could never run again.
But before that I was also active in most of the sports that you mentioned.

You are 100% correct as sports can be a real family builder and some great action shots here.

Thank you kindly for your great support to our work.

Sports is a great way to keep kids busy and out of trouble, it's also so much healthier than sitting in front of the tube or devise. I too played sports while growing up and always loved basketball the best. It's a great game.
Now seeing the grand kids playing, brings back sweet memories for me of when I was was young , running up and down the court.
Hope you are well . Have a blessed and peaceful weekend.

I am glad that the grandkids bring you fond memories Lady Robin.
Yes you are totally correct as sports also deliver a better class of friends, as drugs are a real danger to our kids over here.
We have some at the age of 10 taking a drug called "Tik" over here.

Our weekend is wet as the winter rains have soaked us for the past two weeks here, but the glory be to God as all of the dams are filling up. We come out of a 7 year drought and all of the farmers are seriously happy, as you can imagine.

Blessings also to you guys.

Good day Sir Sterling, drugs are every where. We had a rash of overdoses in our area when we still lived in New Jersey. So very sad, two friends of my older sons died that way, within a short period of time. The entire area was being flooded with bad stuff. All us parents were in a panic, it was awful. I count my blessings everyday, not one of my children has ever even dabbled in drugs.
Thanks for checking me out.
Have a blessed day.

Good morning from South Africa Lady Jackie O' Silver,

Yes, the drug trade is rampant here and destroying many young lives. The power of greed is frightening and the pushers don't care who, or what they hurt to get money.
You guys are indeed blessed with you grandchildren and it's becoming a rare gift.
We also have many stories about our fight against the pushers and it's an ongoing battle.
Such is life my friend.

We thank you kindly for your constant support 💗

Good morning to you! Greed, now that's the whole thing in a nutshell. When money becomes more important than life, we are in trouble.
But as you said... Such is life. I just try to stay focused on my own family and their well being.
Hope you are well and happy. Have a wonderful day!

Good evening milady, we are really in trouble as in the past few years billions were stolen from this country and the poor faces severe struggles.
It's not only the drug syndicates, but also corruption in the high places that is costing taxpayers an arm and a leg.

A good thing that you concentrate on your own family, as they can feel the love and love is the most important thing that greed misplaces.
We simply put or armor on and continue the battle every day my friend.

Peace and love also to you guys.

Love these family stories! So cool he can still play with the kids. :))

Good morning my friend, yep, the hubby can still shoot the ball, he just can't move as quickly as he once did, but that's ok, it's the sharing time together is what really counts. We have a lot of laughs and good clean fun. The exercise is a bonus. I have been watching the sweed play since he was in high school, he's quite an athlete and always found time over the years to teach all 4 of my kids how to play, great way to keep an eye on them.

Hope you are feeling well and enjoying your awesome gardens.
Have a wonderful weekend @goldenoakfarm

YES!

The family that plays together and blockchains together, stays together!

Awesome action shots and family activity for sure. I may have to get me some of them shoes!

Do you believe they make bitcoin sneakers? Too much. My son not only has those shoes, but a bitcoin blanket, hats, t-shirts plus he gives bitcoin wear to us as gifts. Cracks me up.

I thought the actions shots were quite good also, there's always some action when the crew gets together, lots of laughs. And you are right, the family that plays and blockchains together, stick together.😊

Love the Bitcoin shoes. Great to see family enjoying each other @farm-mom

Good morning @pandamama, I love those shoes too. My son is obsessed with bitcoin wear, he even has a blanket with the emblem on it.

I like that - I hope he is collecting Bitcoin too @farm-mom

Good afternoon @pandamama, yes he's been collecting for a few years now. In fact, if it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be on hive and I also would have a lot less investment. We just piggybacked him, he tells us what moves to make. He has been studying cryptocurrencies since the economic crash back in 2008-2009 . So we got in early .

How very lucky for you to have heard so early. We only heard about Crypto 4 years ago when my son introduced us to Steem and now Hive. Grateful anyway

Good morning @lizelle. Happy you enjoy my sports talk. We do have a great time together.

Now you, I read and heard about your little adventure to the hospital. Thank goodness your son was there. One never knows when this kind of medical emergency will occur and it's scary. I am so happy to hear this was just a mini, listen to your body girlfriend, slow down just a wee bit, please, I need you here on the blockchain to keep me going.
Be well, stay well and hive on!
My thoughts, prayers and well wishes are coming your way.
