FROM BRUNCH TO BREWERY~~~A SUNDAY DRIVE

in Silver Bloggerslast year (edited)

There's an old saying Life is Short, Eat dessert first.

I must say I was tempted to go for the sweets first, but the Sunday Brunch offerings at Fred's restaurant in Norwich NY. were just too awesome to pass, I would certainly leave room for those sumptuous goodies.

When we were shown to our table, the waitress asked ...champagne? Oh yes please, that would be fun, I said.

We were out on a Sunday drive last week; it was the first day of sunshine we had seen in many days. As the first rays broke the horizon, I knew that we were getting out and having some fun. When you live in rural Upstate NY, driving around and enjoying the sights takes on a whole new meaning. Never much traffic, open roads, and beautiful scenery.

THE WILDLIFE

Signs like this one dot the roadside and you had better pay attention, these bad boys can wreck a car in one leap.

Flocks of wild turkeys were all over the fields, enjoying the seeds and the warmth of the golden rays.

Country folks do things their own way, some funny, most interesting but others, I don't know...WEIRD.

I was a little weirded out by this mannequin. From further away I thought it was a real woman, but as we got closer, I realized it was a dummy.

Another home had some creepy decorations, especially for St. Patrick's day, I guess it was left out from Halloween. Not a good idea in the mountains with the snow blowing every other day. This poor fella lost an arm and a hand, creepier yet. 😜

We had been out for a couple of hours, and with our bellies full, and smiles on our faces, we headed back to the #homestead.

Taking a new route back, we came upon a local brewery. This place was only 16 miles from our farm and we had never heard of it.

The parking lot was packed, and we almost gave up looking for a space, but finally found a spot to leave the car in the very last row in a fairly large area.

MUDDY MESS

I was happy I had worn my leather cowboy cowgirl boots, they would keep my feet warm and dry. @thebigsweed had sneakers on...nuff said.

I got out ahead of him, his sneakers weren't cutting it and he was slip-sliding with every step, I waited for him at the fancy entrance.

As we opened the door, the sound of music blasted through the air. The place was packed, it was standing room only. I thought the hubby was going to turn around and trek back to the car through the mud once again, but it was such a lively crowd, all Irish, of course, so we tried one of the craft beers from a wide assortment.

This joint was jumping, wall-to-wall Irish, at least for today. The brewing company had even opened up one of its brew rooms to accommodate families with long tables and chairs. There was singing and dancing all over the place.

A lot of "excuse me", then squeezing by.

I would love to drop back to this place on a normal evening, no big Irish celebration, just the local crowd, I am sure we could relate to these jovial people.

This old chap was just taking it in stride, serving us a couple of brews and chatting with us as if there wasn't another customer in sight. Interesting fellow with his woolen cap, white beard, tie-dyed shirt, and a stout in his hand. He reminded me of someone, just not sure who it may be. 😄

An excellent adventure. It's always a great time in March when the St. Patrick's Day parade happens in our hometown, we never miss it. It's next weekend and we will be celebrating once again, the Luck of the Irish.

You had me at beer!!

What an adventure! It must be just before hunting season if all of those deer and turkeys are wandering around in plain sight like that.

Hope you and the Sweed had as much fun as it looking like from here!

Good morning, Zeke, oh it was so much fun, some of these folks were true Irishman, quite a few redheads in the crowd. The band was really good, they played songs that really got your feet tapping and hands clapping. Oh, and the beer was excellent, I should have gotten the name but it had a citrusy taste that I love.

The sweed saw the menu and ordered for me, good choice I told him.

This last stop was the cherry on top of our lovely Sundae. hehe

Look at all them Subarus. Know what that means?

Blending. Mhmmm.

Lots of people love those cars, they are very dependable and last, but they are just too small for the sweed.

How ya doing? Cold down there? we were pounded with a foot and a half of snow a few days ago, still shoveling out.
I need some warm sand on my toes, I told Bob to take me to the Bahamas, Nassau would be nice, and he just laughed and reminded me we are buying a tractor first.
Bob needs a new toy.

Have I got a song for you guys.

Any better would be against the law, farm-mom, thank you for asking. Brrr! No snow but a whole lot of wind and rain, hailed for about an hour but no snow.

Bahamas sounds nice. Wait'll about Tuesday before you take off, though, would ya? Otherwise your mailbox may be a little heavy when you get back.

Much love, Jurg's.

Haha great song, can’t wait to see thesweed running it around the farm. He promised me he would teach me how to drive it, now that’s sexy 😃😆😂
We will be checking the mail for sure.

beautifull all photos, foods looks really delicious. Look like you have enjoyed a lot ❤️

That Sunday brunch is so good and cheap, they even include a glass of champagne, free.

That brewery looks like my kind of place!

 last year

Oh yeah, lotta laughs, interesting folk and great beer.

Those Sunday drives are normally fun finding adventure, another brewery in town, lucky girl!

Your region sounds like they put their heart and soul into St Patrick's Day, not something we see all that often anymore, how we miss times like this.

Dancing on the tables, chap in the cap getting there slowly me thinks 🙃... Enjoy your day and weekend!

!LUV your Sunday drive!

 last year

Hahaha, Joan, you would love this place, we are definitely going back, they said they have Sunday bands, local guys that come in to play a few tunes. This joint has charm, and some great beer.
Cheers!!

Sounds to be a great place close to home to get out and enjoy within the town, have fun and enjoy the !BEER warmer weather arriving soon.

 last year

OH, Joan we will definitely going back for a cold one soon. 🍺

Should be a lovely place to enjoy locally, meet folk and chat.

 last year

That’s exactly it, meeting new people can be fun and interesting.
The cold brew also counts 😜❤️🍀

Warm up to new stories over a cold pint sounds good to me!

Hey @farm-mom, here is a little bit of BEER from @joanstewart for you. Enjoy it!

Look at you my friend buying the first round, I'll get the next one.

Nothing like an impromptu drive and just following your nose not so! Looks like you had a load of fun - good food, beer and good Irish music, a recipe for a swell day!
PS seeing you stand there waiting for your man REALLY reminded me of me and mine! He ALWAYS makes me wait, knows how to take his time, so I often end up walking ahead and waiting impatiently for him! But Bob needs to be careful after his surgery.
Hope that snow melts soon, and that you go for more drives like that🥰
I totally agree:

Life is Short, Eat dessert first.

Hey @lizelle, sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, I went to Jersey to visit my beautiful granddaughts.

Quite a day for sure, we needed to get out a bit, when I saw the sun pop out, my mind was made up and the hubby was all in.
We love going to Fred's for Sunday brunch, so inexpensive and yummy, plus no dishes to clean up.

Our ride in the country sure was a show. The finale was the brewery.

I had been reading this the other night and it was still hanging on, waiting for me to respond. Truth be told, I fell asleep reading posts! No lie! They were even good ones, but, I feel like I am still catching up on life and posts happen to come after all that.

This too shall pass.

Those desserts looked yummy and I don't even care for sweet desserts. I am a savory eater, but, I do like to look at them. Look at all those deer. Yikes. I used to hate driving at twilight up on the Canadian border where we had a summer house. I have never seen such a herd of deer as I had there - and the damage they can do. Oh, my!

Darn! You have cornered the market on turkeys!

Isn't St.Patrick's Day such good fun? That place looks like it was truly made in America. I especially like your bartender. Sweet!:) Probably one of the owners.

I am a little disappointed in you, I must say. You didn't give @thebigweed a piggyback ride to the door? Ya know, sneakers and all.. Maybe next time.

Our parade was today!!!

 last year

How was your parade? Sorry for the late response, I went to Jersey for a few days.

Saint Patty's day is really such an American thing, we celebrate it every year with going to the parade and drinking green beer. When we were dating, we would go into NYC, see the parade, and party with our friends until the final bus was leaving to get us back home.

The good old days...

Have a wonderful, stress-free week.🤞
