Labels add considerable confusion when people don't even understand what they mean, and use them as a performative instead of a classification system. I can be simultaneously sorted as conservative, liberal, or radical depending on context. This sounds contradictory at first glance, but I don't believe it is in practice.
Traditions and norms should be tested and examined, but they often exist for a reason, so while I do not reject novelty, I am biased toward many old ideas. I prefer to dress in simple, unassuming clothes instead of flashy fashion. If that isn't conservative, what is?
Classical liberalism is the rejection of authoritarianism, especially monarchy, and the embrace of individual liberty. People should not be barred from any voluntary association or exchange, and if there is to be any government at all, it should only serve to protect the liberties of the people ilunder it, not to supervise and manage them.
But further than that, I have run out of excuses for government to administer anything. Power corrupts, and those who want it are those who can least be trusted to wield it, even for a minimalist night watchman state. Politics is a counterfeit of healthy society, not a manifestation of it. This makes me a radical anarchist, even though almost everyone who has lived under an HOA has seen it in action. Yet many seem to believe these same broken structures of power become better at scale, like tying a pile of granny knots somehow makes up for never tying a proper square knot in the first place.
