RE: Seaside Memoirs - Mermaids and Silvery delights

Sweet memories of childhood somehow we never forget, your uncle certainly caught a big one there...

Holidays away for long periods to really unwind, unlike today when most sneak in a week at the most, then wonder why they go so quickly!

Annual trips away we often had friends or relatives arrive and same destination, loads of fun. Our destination was always after a couple of days commuting by train, started and ended on my favourite way of travel.

Camping we did when our children were young, yes a crying baby sure kept everyone up. An adventure we only started when husbands running took us to many different regions and accommodation was not easily available.

Yes I don't think there are many fish that size in the sea any longer; well not close to shore at least!
How I'd love to go on a journey by train, one actually gets to see so much more of the countryside.
You must have visited many destinations chasing the marathons not so but like you say when there's not much accommodation available, camping is the last resort!
I certainly could not do all that packing ever again!
Thanks for popping in Joan and what a relief that we survived those horrific riots, it was just awful!

Being able to catch a good fish is seldom heard of, when someone does land one on the beach it normally makes our local newspaper, very seldom!

During the 80's and 90's camping was fun, some hair raising events on Midmar dam with inclement weather... Then children grew up, yes the endless packing we eventually sold tent to an ardent fishing family, they went to Transkei regularly with young family on fishing trips in locations with no accommodation.

Riots shot up very quickly, were evident on our trip back home... then all hell broke lose and glad we made it through. Now food parcels and blankets for those still battling as they did before all this mayhem hit.
