In agricultural villages far from the cities, of course, the situation there is often filled with calm and silence. Excitement is something that rarely happens. Therefore, when at certain times there is an activity like what is called "Pasar Malam" here, meaning the night market, it will look like a lively festival. This activity is actually a kind of attraction that will climax at night. What is seen in the afternoon is only a kind of preparation or opening. Night markets have become a tradition in Indonesia.
In the past, rural areas far from cities only had markets open on one particular day of the week. It is called "Hari Pekan" (market day). All kinds of merchandise needed by the villagers are traded on that market day. It was a tradition in the past. Now, things are much different, and night markets have emerged as a new tradition. It's not really a market as it used to be. "Pasar Malam" does sell various kinds of merchandise but not kitchen needs and the like. The night market sells entertaining and fun things.
At the "Pasar Malam", children are the main consumers. There, they find a variety of interesting to unique objects: toys, dolls, balloons to colorful chicks. They find various fantastic experiences through amusement rides such as "Bianglala", a ferris wheel that is like a windmill; as well as swings that resemble pirate ships, which are here called "Galeon" (galleon), as well as fishing ponds filled not only with toy fish but also live ornamental fish. Pop corn, ice cream and various delicious foods will make it all perfect.
Everyone looks happy, the children and of course their parents. The joy then spread throughout the villages. The "Night Market" which is usually held during the week is of course a refreshing treat after the village people reap the harvest from their farms. It was like one exhilarating silver coin.
