I grabbed the trolley and headed straight for the aisle selling orthopedic devices. Enough is enough, I now needed extra-ordinary support!
Sitting for hours at my desk working on BnB admin, which encompasses way more than meets the eye - tourism registration renewals, ensuring annual certified checks are done on safety equipment like fire extinguishers, pest control, doing quotations, invoicing, marketing, month-end books for the taxman, and updating our listings on more than half a dozen booking sites, are just some of the tasks that keep me glued to my office chair. When that's all done, it's back to another magnet, Hive!
Dead Butt Syndrome...
Also known as Gluteal Amnesia.
Sedentary jobs and pastimes are bad for anyone's glutes, back, hips, and shoulders! Add to that many decades of sitting, and you'll know all about it later in life!
That desk chair equals pain.
I've had to unlearn bad habits, take a break, stretch my legs, and walk a little.
Mouse Shoulder
Have you thought about the damage you're doing to your shoulders from repetitive mouse clicking? Rotator cuff tear, and frozen shoulder are two common painful conditions, and we're doing it to ourselves!
Self-Inflicted Injuries
I'm talking about myself now! Besides hips and glutes, neck and shoulders now need intervention by professionals, but, I have to be patient! Thankfully! Going the conservative route with a compressed nerve at the C5-C6 level means just what it says.
I've started a good solid regime of twice-weekly physiotherapy sessions as prescribed by the neurosurgeon who hopes that realigning the spine will alleviate the unnerving numbness and shocks! I prefer this route, but need to learn patience, which is a characteristic I unfortunately lack!
Orthopedic Finds
- Ergonomic Memory Foam Seat Cushion - hopefully will revive that dead butt!
- Lumbar Support Cushion - self-descriptive...
- Footrest to stop my legs from dangling.
- Ergonomic Orthopedic Leg Pillow - to align back and hips and cushion legs and knees while sleeping.
- Soft Cervical Collar - to be worn two hours on and two off throughout the day, stifling now it's summertime but it stops me from tilting my head back, (plus snacking), and hopefully does the job!
- Resistance Bands for physio exercises - from a light-resistant yellow to a heavy-resistant green, and extra-resistant blue. I'm still on the yellow!

The Verdict
I'm sitting way more comfortably, actually managed to write this in one session, but I've learnt my lesson - took some breaks, and stretched a little.
I hope this will be the end of at least one problem, and that is dead butt syndrome!

I think the solution may have been found? or maybe hire a secretary!!! Dead Butt syndrome seems like a right pain in the ass.
Haha, well-said @grindle, it sure is😅
All my own fault, no balance! Hubby used to keep me in check, but I think ..hope... I've learnt my lesson now. Not easy when you're a tad OCD!
These gadgets are easing the pressure!
Every little helps! I guess I just rely on the voices in my head, I just sit back and relax, let them fight it out and do what the winner tells me to do, it seems to work.....most of the time lol
My problem is I usually ignore those voices!
LOL x
I KNOW it's not funny at all, but I couldn't help but grin at the pile of orthotics.
I also understand, because I have a few orthotic type things too as I still work, sitting a 40 hour week at my job and then whatever sitting I do for my personal things at my computer and the such. I never resist acquiring the next thing to try if I think there is something that will make general life better/more comfortable as I age.
I hope it all greatly helps your issues.
I may have said this in another post, but my Mom dealt with a pinched nerve that numbed her left arm and made lightening strike in her neck and elbow and forearm. She was sure she had really done it this time and was doomed to have it forever, but she saw doctors and was put on therapy twice a week for a while and although it went very slow, there was marked difference every week. By last Christmas, it was practically no issues left. Of course she was surprised because it started so bad, but she and all of us that love her are so glad that she has gotten past it.
I am also hoping it will be the same for you.
Haha @jacey.boldart, if we can't laugh at ourselves, we may as well just give up! I also had a chuckle, went overboard trying to cover all the issues.
Your Mom's problem sounds exactly like mine, the numbness and kind of shockwaves/wriggling inside is VERY unsettling, but thankfully doesn't last long. I put the neck collar on too tightly today, stupid of me, had 4 of those episodes, then only loosened it!
I'm interested to know what treatment they gave your Mom?
Have a great weekend further Jacey💕
I feel your pain and discomfort. I agree; too much sitting at a desk and not enough exercise does take its toll on one's body. I've had to increase my exercise and use a butt cushion, back support, and a footrest too. I still have to go to a good foot store to be fitted for the proper orthopedic insoles for my feet. Too many years barefoot and no shoes have not been favorable. lol. Getting older has shown me too how much more I need to take better care of my body. I hope all your new comforts serve you well.
That's the problem @sunscape, we wake up only once the problems start, but try to remedy as best we can so it's good to have these tools😉
Handy tips and tools to overcome ailments we bring to our health unwittingly. Much better to right the wrongs than have surgery or sit with unnecessary pain, way to go!

Thanks Joan, I really hope it does the trick, don't feel like going under the knife, just want it all to go away
Hoping this side for you as well, the best answer is to adjust rather than surgery, always....
