Hi @stevenwood, absolutely brilliant piece of writing! A wordsmith through and through!
Just about everything resonates. I've entered my...ummm...eighth ouch decade, and when you speak of the stacked losses, my head bobbed up and down - I've not heard a more apt description!
And...your goals are NOT vacuous. Why should we not strive to be the best version of ourselves?
But honestly, in my opinion, it should be all about balance. We need not go to the extremes that some do, if that is out of our comfort zone, and not sustainable.
Life is about living after all!
We can strive to live a healthier lifestyle, but not at the cost of "no coffee", for example. I have a shot of Cayenne Pepper & Turmeric before the coffee - no reflux!
There are ways and means to enjoy little indulgences still.
I am so sorry to hear about your pancreas, and that you're also having to deal with glucose fluctuations! My late hubby was a diabetic from the age of 8, was injecting 4-5 times per day, kept active (the secret), and lived a healthy life, without going to extremes.
I hope you reach goal number three, very good one!
A tip for those hypoglycemic episodes - carry a small pack of jelly sweets in your pocket for when out and about. I know juice or a fruit is preferable, but not always practical. First check with your doctor!
Thank you for sharing this here with our Silver Bloggers, and good luck with your journey towards good health and reaching those goals!

If eight decades is what it takes to glean such wisdom, optimism, warmth and lightness of spirit and should I be granted that long, I will accept it gladly. Remember what an octogenarian was when we were younger, Wow!
Yup, those 'stacked losses', although they feel like they may crush us at anytime when we are in the thick of those most challenging periods we will ever endure, in some way, make us! The price of those life-shaping lessons is high and almost unbearable, what else is new? Some of the most important lessons come with a price tag we would never willingly accept, sometimes life is bloody hard.
I have halved my lansoprazole for reflux, thank you! (with a little cinnamon too).
I was already testing the activity waters, spoiler: I didn't focus on the bit about extremes and have now moved from dangerously high glucose to hypos almost daily as I am working the glucose out too fast, I have massively reduced units of insulin, which in turn, helps with that stubborn midriff fat, so dangerous to gentlemen of a certain age 🤣
I consider this a great problem to have though and am making many life adjustments and trialling things so that I can learn to operate with this insulin sensitive life...
Sorry that I have taken so ridiculously long to respond to one of the most wonderful responses I have ever received, these new challenges have taken a toll of late, while I learn to navigate them, and did not want to rush my response when I was able to make it.
Me and mine wish you and yours all the very best that life has to offer and new more palatable learnings to impart when the decade count rolls round to 9. People like your good self make this place a truly warm, supportive, engaging place to be and no matter what monetary value the token that back this chain happens to be at any given time... That is priceless!!!
Thank you, so very much 😎🌞
