McMenamins Grand Lodge - Forest Grove, Oregon - A Visual Tour

in Silver Bloggers8 months ago
I recently had the opportunity to spend a night at McMenamins Grand Lodge in Forest Grove, Oregon. While I have spent several nights at their Edgefield establishment, this would be my first stay here. Join me as I take a tour around the grounds.

A nice little bar and grill out on the property away from the main lodge. McMenamins is great at turning little out buildings into special little places to eat and drink.

In its original life the lodge was a Masonic home for the less fortunate. This building was an orphanage that was added later on. Must have been an interesting mix of older and younger people running around the grounds. 😀

Another McMenamins tradition is to name their rooms after people associated with the facility and to supply a little anecdote about the individual. Feel free to zoom in and read a little about Dr. Cole written on the wall of the room we stayed in.

Here is a picture courtesy of https://grandlodgeconcerts.com/edgefields-history/ that shows the building in the 1920s. As you will see in the following pictures the grounds around the building have changed drastically.

A much more lush environment surrounds the main building today.

Flower and vegetable gardens are another staple of some McMenamins locations.

McMenamins Edgefield has their own winery. Not sure if these grapes get shipped there but they do look like fine specimens.

I forgot to ask what these metal slides were when we were there and googling didn't seem to yield an answer either. Maybe it was for removing bodies from the Masonic home back in the day. 😂

Another little patio area around the lodge.

This area was toward the front of the grounds. I kept expecting to find water of some sort. It would have been close to the area where the kids are swimming in the old picture above.

Needless to say there was no shortage of colorful views to be had while walking the property.

These massive trees were outside the room we stayed in. I did my best to try to capture them with some stitched together panoramas. I think I failed pretty spectacularly. lol.

McMenamins does an excellent job of repurposing these old buildings. They have a way of putting all the old back to use in some manner. :)
