Another Winter's Blast After the Rain - by Sunscape

We have had snowfall every few days. The sun comes out and a little melts, then we get 4-6" more. This week we had rain falling on top of the snow that was left and wow, did it get icy fast. This photo is of my husband working on clearing the snow from the car and sidewalk from last night's snow. We ended up with another 9" overnight.

This is the gutter on the back porch and the Orange Azalea bush outside the kitchen window. The branches have a 1/4" of ice on them. I was concerned that it would not stop raining and some of the trees would suffer. We were supposed to get 45- 50 MPH winds that night. With the ice building up, it could have been messy and some did lose power in the area.

With the rain, the snow had been packed down almost level with the wood on the raised beds. You can see what happened overnight. Thankfully, the greenhouse heats up somewhat during the day to help keep the snow melting so the weight load is not too much.

The only part of the fencing left above ground is the top round. The Hemlock at the pond is laden with wet snow and I will have to go out and knock some of the snow off. I certainly don't want to lose any branches.

All the shrubs and trees in the front yard are doing well considering they are mostly buried. Paths throughout the backyard allow Mika to walk about. The snow is deeper than she is tall so the paths help her to have someplace to go to the bathroom.

Our temperatures may fall below 10°F this week and windchill below -0°F. After that passes we are going to be in the 40's for a few days. This has certainly been a rollercoaster ride this winter with the extreme weather changes. I wonder what March will bring. Perhaps it will turn warm quickly so I can get the seedlings into the greenhouse.

Just looking at this gives me shivers down my spine. We rarely get any snow at all.

lol, I'm living in it and let me tell you it is so cold you do shiver. brrrrrrrrrrrr!

The photos look beautiful, but I can't fully imagine the hard work that all this requires. I live with temperatures between 36 and 40 degrees, heat is a big issue, everyone talks about the same thing, March is the hottest month, last year we saw that the thermal sensation reached 45 degrees. Although the situations are totally opposite, both speak of a climate change that is taking its toll.

Kind regards.

I have been hearing that from everyone in the Southern Hemisphere. They said the temperatures were unusually high and there was not enough rain in some places. I hope you are doing well in the extreme conditions. Thank you for stopping by. ♥

Thank you, @tengolotodo enjoy your nicer weather than mine and have another Corona! ;-)

So much snow and a lot of sweeping in cold weather. We had lots of dry leaves to sweep in the garden. It’s better than having to deal with piles of snow.

Hope the weather would get warmer soon.
Keep warm and cuddle the cats and doggie.

I am sure you are still cleaning up from all the flooding. I'm sure the orange cats enjoy having you at home and in the gardens with them.

I have started having builders coming in to repair walls which were under flood. I have to try to find the old numbers of paints for these flooded walls. The big trees have to be trimmed quite a lot too. Repairing work would be quite slow as the builders have just started a new housing project. But they would make time for us once a week.

The orange cats would insist on sleeping in the living room and sometimes Kwan would jump on my bed at night. Usually these cats woukd be too timid to sleep by my side. I told them long ago that they weren’t supposed to sleep on my bed. They have very good memories!

Yup, much the same here, just after you. I was out chipping ice off the front steps as I hadn't been out front in 2 days and didn't realize it was so bad...

I live in a tropical country so it always makes me curious to know how it feels like to live in a place that has winter season. Snow-covered trees are always mesmerizing to see. I guess building a snowman is just fun the first few days of winter. As the snow deepens, it requires a lot of physical effort to pave the path. It is awesome to see that the shrubs and trees are still thriving despite the environmental condition. Once you get inside your cozy abode, the look of the fireplace gives you comfort and warmth. May you have better days and even better weather in the coming days!
