Fluff McFeather is my Unforgettable Character in SBC14

Hello Hello to all Hivians, Silver Bloggers and anyone else reading this.

Fluff McFeather.png

This week's The Silverbloggers Chronicles - Prompt 14 is ....

The Unforgettable Character.

Who is a character from your life you'll never forget? It could be a person you knew, a fictional character from a book or film, or even a local legend from your home town.

Confession Time!!!

This particular prompt was my one. One of the perks of being a moderator in our wonderful group of old fogies is being able to dream up prompts.

My prompts are generally based around something that I would like to read and write.

I am going to leave the prompt image here as it is a taster of what I am about to explain and write about in my chronicle 14!

I went to The Edinburgh Academy in Edinburgh (no shocks there) and one of the founders was Sir Walter Scott the novelist poet and historian. One of our famous pupils is Robert Louis Stevenson, so you can say I have had writing beaten into me! I am sure you have heard of Treasure Island, Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and Kidnapped amongst others.

Detectives

Edinburgh has so many dark secrets and I am sure there will be more to be found. The atmospheric closes and historical buildings have provided a rich backdrop for many crime stories.

The most famous detective based in Edinburgh is probably Detective Inspector John Rebus who was created by author Ian Rankin. Rebus is a hard-drinking, music-loving, and cynical detective who solves crimes across the city.

It is the home of Arthur Conan Doyle the creator of Sherlock Holmes so yes that is why I choose that picture for the prompt. It is a statue at the Top of Leith Walk.

There is a nearby pub named after him, where I sank many a pint in my school and student days.

A lesser known fact is that Edinburgh was home to a Real-Life Detective named James McLevy.

McLevy was a real-life police officer who worked in the city during the mid-19th century and is often referred to as "Edinburgh's first detective"

He was renowned for his astute deductive skills and for solving over 2,200 cases during his career.

2,200 cases I mean fluff me, he could teach todays so called police a thing or two, as they seem far too busy arresting people over tweets than actually solving crimes let alone solving 2,200 of them!

He even published a series of popular true crime books that are said to have influenced Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

The Unforgettable Character

Meet Fluff McFeather

When I think about a truly unforgettable character, my mind doesn't go to a person from my past, a historical figure or even a fictional character.

If you know me then you know I love faction, my blends of fact and fiction... hence faction.

So my mind then. settles on a character that's a blend of my own passions ... namely: a detective from the streets of Edinburgh, a lover of its old closes and hidden wynds, and an avid nature lover especially the birds.

Some of you may know about Archie Cameron who is another of my characters, for those people then, it will come as no surprise that I am talking about a fictional creation I’ve come up with myself.

His name at the moment is ... yes you guessed it ... Fluff McFeather.

Fluff McFeather the hero

Both Mrs T and I love murder mysteries and detective stories, you know the thing looking for clues and trying to piece together a puzzle.

And being from Edinburgh, the city's labyrinthine streets in the Old Town and some of the wynds in the New Tow and the sense of history that goes with it provide the perfect backdrop for a mystery.

Fluff McFeather's quirks

Fluff McFeather is a detective who solves crimes not just by interviewing suspects or analysing forensics, oh fluff no... but also by observing the very nature around him.

His greatest informant is the avian population of Edinburgh. He knows the difference between a panicked squawk from a blackbird and the territorial cry of a magpie. He can tell if a scene has been disturbed by the way the sparrows scatter, or if a person has passed by a certain spot by the absence of pigeons where they would normally gather.

image.png

He always carries a bag of bird seed in his pocket, not just to feed his feathered friends in the parks, but as a way of getting them to talk to him. His colleagues at the police station think he's a bit fluffing mad, but they can't deny his results. He has solved a number of cold cases just by spending time in the location and seeing the things others miss. His approach is slow, patient, and methodical, much like a bird building its nest, or a detective patiently piecing together a case.

He is unforgettable because he represents a part of me ... the love for my home city, my passion for detective stories, and my appreciation for the simple, beautiful creatures that bring life to our parks and gardens. He reminds me that sometimes the most important clues are not found under a microscope, but right in front of us, if only we take the time to look and listen.

I have written three cases for Fluff McFeather but I have not decided yet if they will form the basis of a book or short stories or where I will publish them.

So yeah Fluff McFeather is my fictional character and my Unforgettable Character!

What a fun post! That McLevy fellow must have been one heck of a detective to solve 2,200 cases. How did he have enough hours in the day? And that was all before internet searches! lol

Sounds like a lot of fun creating Fluff McFeather, you've done the hardest part in creating him and writing up stories. It will be interesting to see what you decide to do with them.

Another great post!

2200 cases solved is mindboggling lol. No internet, tv or probably radio, no cars to get to crime scenes quickly either. It is fun and come winter I might take some photographs to get more ideas too. Plotting a crime is actually quite fun. Thank you and yes what I do with them will be interesting.

Sounds awesome! I hope the cold storm passes you by soon and that the warm sun will come back out!

Hehe the rain is battering the windows being assisted by that fluffing wind lol.
So feel free to enjoy the sun for me!

I am a person that likes suspense so I do love detective stories and mostly the U.S. navy seal stories.

oh the US navy seal stories. That is interesting, when I write about Archie Cameron he is a bit like that but a UK version hehe

Suspense and crime scene, is one of my favorate to watch

They are great aren't they!

Suspense and crime stories are my favourite before. Now I minimised reading because it consumes most of my times😬😁.

Well you read so many blogs on Hive 😜

Haha Ed, this is an unique take on your favourite character! I also love detective stories, so hope to read about your creation, Fluff McFeather!

Yes it is actually fun plotting crimes that can be solvable Lizzie! Fluff McFeather is a good detective, he doesn't give a fluff but gets results!

Congratulations you have been manual curated and upvoted by @ecency

Cheers Mick

The love of you in writing, how's the story of Archie?

I watch a lot of reals about Edinburgh and it looks magical and the same time intriguing.

Hehe when I was a kid in Edinburgh it was so much better as we didn't have all these tourists. So you go wherever you wanted, now they charge you for things and there people everywhere. So in summer it is pretty much a no go now for me.

Yes Archie is still stuck lol

Ah, yes, I've read about Archie Cameron! 😉And I think you should publish that book soon. I was watching a movie the other day (The Thursday Murder Club) in which a group of seniors get together to investigate a crime. I think it's interesting and fun to have investigation as a hobby. A hug from a detective character.🕵🏻‍♀️

I was watching a movie the other day (The Thursday Murder Club) in which a group of seniors get together to investigate a crime.

Ah yes I was going to watch that on Netflix, I saw it too. We could have the Silver Bloggers Detectives lol! I need to write some more of Archie, the winter is when I tend to do it! Although Fluff McFeather might object.
Hehe that was a fun hug and sending you a discovering hug now Nancy

I always like a good detective story!

Yeah they are fun and quite a challenge putting together too!

faction Love it! This could a bit of a hit TV series or at least 2200 hive posts

Hehe I love faction, 2200 Hive posts lol that would be mental!

Dunno bout those titles, familiar with Sherlock Holmes, though, am curious how is Arthur Conan Doyle related to detective Conan? A famous detective anime character in Japan hehe
!PIZZA

Sherlock Holmes has to be the most famous detective in the world and he was created by the Scotsman Arthur Conan Doyle. So I imagine that is where they took the name as a bit of homage to him.

I don't know about Edinburgh but sometimes I want a detective story or movie but sometimes not haha lol it depends to the story and movie 🤧😆. I want to join this prompt, Thanks for this.

I hope you were not affected by the earthquake, I remember in Edinburgh we had one once and things moved! Ah a good detective series is fun, but then writing faction is fun too! Ready ka na ba sa weekend?

yes, we are not affected by the earthquake, only by the typhoon because it often rains on us.
waahhh! i like that, its like enchanted?
you know how to write fiction stories, thats a talent. i idolized people who can write about their imaginations.

yes, im always ready for weekend. I have no choice haha.

I bet you can write about your imagination, you are expressive you can do it too! Oh yes your typhoon, we are waiting storm amy and it is raining na!
Enchanted .. but of course. Do you have chicken for me today...

Though I've tried before, I didn't do it again because it's ugly to read. I'm not sure how to write about my thoughts.

Oh, be careful as well.

Hehe Yes, I have chicken here if you want it. LOL.

I was reading about chicken selling and then not selling them all. It made me hungry. Writing is writing, here on Hive you can just write how you speak or what you think. I know I just do that here, I don't write like I would elsewhere lol!

You've left me with a big task. I don't know either of them, John rebus. Now I'm going to try to read something about them. I'm sure there's some literature online about the characters you mention. Thanks for sharing, dear @tengolotodo . A big hug from Maracay.

Rebus is the character from Ian Rankin, an author who I have met. Fluff McFluff is the detective I created and I doubt you will him online yet..

Ah, okay. I'll go find Rankin, wait for you to publish your book. Thanks. Have a nice day.

Thanks Irvin and have a great weekend :)
