The black coot is one of the most widespread water birds in the Czech Republic. Definitely more common than many ducks, except perhaps the mallard, which is often released from artificial breeding in the Czech Republic. Interestingly, it belongs to the Rallidae along with the common moorhen. However, while it is rare to see a rail because they are hidden in the reeds, coots are visible and float on the surface of ponds, rivers and various reservoirs.
Lyska černá je jedním z nejrozšířenějších vodních ptáku v Česku vůbec. Rozhodně běžnější než mnohé kachny, snad s výjimkou kachny divoké a ta se v Česku často vypouští z umělých odchovů. Zajímavé je, že patří mezi chřástali (Rallidae) společně se Slípkou zelenonohou. Zatímco ale spatřit chřástala je vzácnost, protože jsou schovaní v rákosí, tak lysky jsou viditelné a plavou na hladině rybníků, řek a různých nádrží.
Tady tu jsem vyfotil "po pražsku" z nábřeží, opřený o zábradlí.
Na hlavním toku Vltavy zimují, nebo prostě přebývají, ale hnízdí někde, kde je rákosí a klidná voda. Klidně na rybníčcích v pražské Stromovce.
Na lidi si dávno zvykly.

They winter on the main stream of the Vltava river, or simply reside, but nest somewhere with reeds and calm water. Such as on the ponds in Prague's Stromovka.
They got used to humans a long time ago.

Třeboňsko se svým nepřehledným množstvím rybníků je lokalita s hejny lysek všude možně. Každý rok je vidět množství mláďat o které se rodiče starají.
The Třeboň region with its uncluttered number of ponds is a locality with swarms of coots everywhere. Every year you can see a number of chickens being cared for by their parents.

Ani na Dunaji na vodním díle Gabčíkovo nechybí, ale vlny a odlesk slunce spolu s velkou vzdáleností z nich udělalo jen černé špunty.
They are not missing on the Danube at the Gabčíkovo reservoir either, but the waves and the glare of the sun, together with the great distance, have made them just black plugs.
