It's gone from icy cold to raining at the moment. It was getting too cold to go out so I'm glad it has warmed up a bit. At a local park we spotted the resident heron at the side of the lake. We stuck around to see what it would do.
It looked as though it was contemplating whether to take flight or not. It is obviously getting enough food in the park as it's been here for awhile. (This photo is my entry).
Going, going, gone! It finally took off. In flight, their legs stick out at the back, showing off a large wingspan. It's amazing how they get off the ground.
The heron circled the park a couple of times before it came back down to land. It was like a dinosaur coming into land!
