European stonechat in the fallow

During my photography trip this last weekend I was able to take several nice pictures of birds again and also the european stonechat was one of the birds that I found there. These birds like living in wasteland or at the fallow. Since there are only a few spots with wasteland available in Austria their habitat is getting smaller and smaller and every time I am in the eastern Part of Austria at the border to Czech Republic and Slowakia I enjoy birdphotography there. I managed to take several nice pictures of birds of prey but also some smaller birds like this european stonechat here.

Stonechats, like robins, bluechats and whinchats, belong to the flycatcher family, a species-rich group that is closely related to thrushes. They breed in open areas with individual bushes, where they make their nests on the ground or immediately above it. Both sexes take care of raising the four to six young birds. The stonechats can raise up to three broods in a year.

I like the great colors of this bird, but the eye often doesn't stand out because of the black head. Picture: Florian Glechner.
