Mating of the Common Redshanks

This weekend I had the luck to take some pictures of the mating procedure of two common red shanks. They were wandering around in the shallow water and at first they were a little hard to spot because of their camouflage color, but I found them and watching them wandering in the water and then doing their mating right in front of me was very nice. My camera was on burst shot and I probably was able to nearly take more than 50 pictures even though this mating procedure only took several seconds. But on occasions like this the burst shot is probably the best one to get at least some nice pictures.

Although the rest of the weekend was not really the most successful bird photography weekend I spend in Burgenland I am still very happy with the results. The pictures of the Eurasian hopoe and these mating pictures of the common redshanks paid off. But I remember two years ago in spring it was way better. Because of the fact we visited this place so late a lot of the birds are already breeding and they don't show up as often or are hiding in the reed or the grass, so it is not so easy to spot them.
