Show Me A Picture (SMAP) Contest Round 105 - For Want Of A Theme Photo

in Feathered Friends3 years ago

Hello Feathered Friends Community. We welcome Round 105 of this awesome challenge, the Show Me A Photo or SMAP Contest hosted by @nelinoeva. Each week a new theme is designated and participants are to show photos depicting the theme. Find out more about this here. Read up and join us in the fun. Invite friends too. The more, the merrier!

The theme for this week is:

SMALL BIRD

When I first read the theme for this week I thought I would have to pass again because I didn't have any good photos of small birds nor the time to go out hunt for one because of time constraints. However, a stroke of inspiration struck me just a few minutes ago while I was going through my archives and I said why not? For want of a photo of a real live small bird, why not a painting of one?

As some of you know, my daughter is an artist, among many other things. As artist she usually joins art exhibits which I visit, of course, as a devoted and proud dad 😊 And usually, in these exhibits, a lot of artists paint birds of all kinds which, as a feathered friends devotee, I take photos of in case an opportunity arises in the future when I can use them. And, here is one opportunity for the taking.

First off is this painting of what used to be the national bird of the Philippines. The Philippine Maya.

The Lonchura atricapilla, specifically referred to by the common name "mayang pula" ("red maya"), which was recognized as the national bird of the Philippines until 1995, when then-President Fidel V. Ramos formally transferred that honorific to the Philippine eagle. Wikipedia

Both photos above are of the same painting but somehow the change in the angle of the light made one of the birds' head turn grayish blue. This is an oil on canvass painting titled Kalayaan or freedom.

Next is this painting of a sparrow, one of the more common small birds one can find anywhere but quite difficult for me to take with my cell phone camera as they fly off immediately when I approach them.

This is a painting using watercolor as a medium and is titled Langgam which is the Visayan word for Bird in English.

And lastly, is this very familiar specie and one I have often posted before. The Olive-Backed Sunbird. I used to have a morning visitor in my garden everytime I water the plants which I named Olivia. She got so used to me that she wouldn't mind me coming near her when I water the plants. But I think she has either passed away or moved on as I do not see her anymore when I do my garden chores.

I have posted the photo below before in one of the SMAP contests but still I thought I'd do so again here to remind you just how friendly she was to me, letting me near her to take pictures hehe.
