Hey Hive! Today I’ll be sharing with you some pictures of a tiny bird I found in the garden when I first started exploring. It took awhile to find out what kind of bird it was but my research showed that I stumbled upon a Scaly-Breasted Munia also known as Nutmeg Mannikin or Spice Finch.
Scaly-Breasted Munia
This tiny fella was quite a bit harder to spot than the doves from my last post. If he didn’t start singing I would have probably missed him completely but once spotted he didn’t seem afraid of me. The size of this Munia is no bigger than that of a sparrow. They eat mostly grass seeds and small insects but I don’t recall seeing one of these in the grass before.
I was glad this one didn't budge even though I was doing rounds around the tree taking photos from different angles.
As far as I know these birds are often taken as pets around here. Not sure how ordinary or ethical it is.
My ventures in the garden have been set still for a while because we had a chemical factory nearby burn down and anticipated a big explosion for a couple of days. Still hesitent to go out much because I'm not sure how clean the air is (the thing burned for 2 days straignt with 20 000 litres of petrol underneath.. we were lucky the fire never reached them.). Been staying home with my air puryfier for the most part but I do have another interesting bird to show you from just before that.. just need to get my photos out of the camera and into lightroom. I feel like I need to crop and zoom these bird photos a lot more.. especially of the tiny birds, but then the quality drops. I'll figure it out eventually.
Anyways, thanks for reading and I hope to see you again in the next one!
Good catch! Birds give me headache! LoL
Haha. I find their musical background quite relaxing.😀
They jumped around too much; I could never focus on them! Tricky little birds! 😂😂
Such a lovely bird. 😀
Was a great model! 😀
We used to have loads of these here, now its hard to find them. I need to travel out of the city to see them. Lovely to see them again.
I'm a bit on the outskirts of Bangkok.. maybe that's why.
