Birds On Wing
How fascinated we are with flight, something birds do so effortlessly coming in different design patterns to help us identify their ability.
Pointed wing tips of the gliding birds able to soar through the skies many dive to swoop a meal out of water taking to flight immediately. Species of birds requiring long distance flight all depends on ratio of weight to wing span, size of wing area.
Birds with long pointed wings for high speed flight are able to dive attaining neck breaking speed in dive when claiming food source. Agile flight crows in maneuverability up and down, whereas the eagles have slightly different "fingers" allowing for gliding, with slotted wing tips ability to hover.
Wings tell us what the bird is capable of long flight, short distance, within forested regions or diving into water. It's the wing of things for mobility use of capturing energy provided by hot updrafts, pockets of air using minimal effort reserving energy while moving around the sky.
Feathered Friends Entry - Show Me A Photo Contest Round 8 with @nelinoeva
My entry photograph taken yesterday...
Pin-tailed whydah (Vidua macroura) bird dancing above the tree ready to swoop down on one of the females he is trying to attract below.
"Cheeky" has been in the garden for seven months, now appearing less and less with breeding season coming to an end he will lose the fancy tail and we look forward to all his antics again in the next season. Keeping an eye out for this little fellow, he has been most entertaining. Being territorial, living to approximately twelve years hopefully we keep seeing him and his offspring in years to come.
Some in flight from over the years, some of these photographs may have been used previously.
Considering birds and wing makes one yearn to have some of their maneuverability, here we are firmly grounded along with some birds that no longer fly either, like the Ostrich or Penguin, I wonder if they ever regret giving up the ability to fly during evolution.
All photography my own, some may have been used over the years on variety of platforms. Any queries or requests please drop a comment below or make contact with me, have a wonderful day! Photography without tripod, go with the flow wherever life takes you.

Birds in flight are so hard to shoot, but a few weeks ago I could take a photo of two flying swans 😁
You have had much more luck than me, and your birds are looking so much better and colorful anyway 😃
Cheers with !BEER and !WINE

Sometimes one gets lucky, with a dash of patience!
Many birds have extremely fast direct patterns of flight, colours to amaze and dazzle you, land then tease you again. Oh yes, I do speak of that Lourie bird he is always around, try capture him in flight!
Thanks for visiting and sending !BEER to enjoy, weekend spilled with a big dash of happiness.

Right, luck plays a big role, and patience too, but the Lady Patience doesn't like me very much ;)
Maybe I just need to be nicer to this lady - maybe she will like me more and stay a little bit longer than only 5 or 10 minutes ;) lol
Sending you also a !BEER I wish you a wonderful weekend Joan 😊

Patience only ever found when outdoors on my own, so perhaps that lady and I had better become better acquainted as well....
Sun is out, sky is blue, perhaps getting a little warmer so here is a !BEER for you!
I belong to the people who always have to move on because I think I will miss something. So I always leave the lady behind and she doesn't like that 🤣 But I want to practice slowing down this year, that's my plan.
Oh yes, here it's warm enough for a cool !BEER 🍻

Patience and Lady Luck always look on the bright side either will come visiting. Enthusiasm always in the picture as well.
Happy Sunday, all three keep good company along with !BEER
If everything goes as planned I want to invite both Ladies to accompany me on a little journey this Spring. It's nothing special, just a little hike, but I think I will need both of them ;) lol
I wish you also a great Sunday, Joan, and I send you a !BEER and some !WINE so you can decide for yourself 😁

.Wonderful birds in flight photos Joan. I loved seeing Cheeky. He’s quite entertaining with his antics.
Tip!
He was still here this morning, have not seen the three females, they must be around with him still performing.
Thanks for visiting and the tip Jo.
You are most welcome Joan.🙂
Wonderful post! I can imagine how the whydah bird is dancing. Must be really a show worth watching. ☺ such a pleasure to learn new things eading your post.
Freedom of the air the birds enjoy only makes one wish to fly as well. Each has some distinct traits, thanks for enjoying as much as I enjoy sharing @nelinoeva

Wonderful photos Joan, you were so fortunate getting a shot of the Lourie in flight as they're very shy. We only managed to capture one in flight and they're in our garden all the time!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend:)
Lourie should have been called the bird that teases you, such brilliant display of colours, then you see him them he's some!
Thanks for visiting and have a wonderful weekend as well @lizelle

Those are some beautiful shots of flying birds and I know it is not that easy to capture them in flight. I always enjoy watching or looking at photos of birds in flight - thanks for sharing!
Not rising as early as I used to I miss the early morning traffic passing over the house. Always timing with the birds movements.

You're welcome @joanstewart, well done! 😊🌹
When I look at your pictures I am just in awe with their beauty and majesty. These must have taken a lot of patience, perseverance and of course some luck but I would discount luck as just a minor factor. You bring so much of life with your photos. Awesome!!!
I think if it wasn't for birds we would have had no idea of how to build a plane all the ideas came from observing them in flight and take-off what do you think ?
