Our weather is treating us much the same, what a beautiful bird to see in the open obviously hunting insects or earth worms in cooler area.
Have never heard about the Whistling heron interesting popping colour on the bird in your region.

It has been great to be able to find this beautiful species of bird on the property, it was what I needed to see to be reassured that the birds were still living there on the property.
