Getting Closer ~ I Can See Clearly Now!

I wrote a post not too long ago talking about how all my bird photos are cropped. Now I have purchased a teleconverter for my zoom lens and I can get quite a bit closer.

Some birds will let you get fairly close to them... like this lovely Peacock in the park. Now I'm able to get some shots with no cropping and I do find it makes a lot of difference in the level of detail I can see.

I took this close-up from about 10 feet away. The combination of getting physically closer and also having a more powerful lens is very cool.

Here's a crow I captured a few days ago. Again I was able to get fairly close, and also shoot with higher magnification.

Great Blue Herons in flight... I can't always get close to the bird so sometimes I still have to crop in, but not as much as before.

I'm pretty happy with my new setup now. I still don't have a super long lens. My zoom and teleconverter are giving me 420 mm which is not a lot for birding, but it's an improvement.

Here's a final photo where the bird came to me, so I got a close-up shot even without my bird lens. This is a Starbucks Crumb Sucker, nice and close. I hope you enjoyed these photos!

I enjoyed the photos before. Looking forward to some awesome shots with the new equipment. Love the 'Starbucks Crumb Sucker'! We have Tropical Magpie Jay muffin eaters. I will try to get a shot soon.

Thank you! I'd like to see those Tropical Magpie Jay muffin eaters!

Hahaha! I see French Fry Hoppers at the fast food places quite frequently! Beautiful photos of the peacock and Herons, but as always, the crow wins my heart! Thanks for posting to #featheredfriends.

Thank you, Melinda! French Fry Hoppers is a great name. Sounds like a seagull to me :-)

We don't get many seagulls here in South Central Wisconsin. We're quite a distance from any large bodies of water that would support them, although occasionally they do show up at the dump! The French fry hoppers that I see are sparrows.

Oh, I see. You'd get them if you were closer to Lake Michigan. At least I used to see plenty of them near Lake Ontario.

I'm about dead center in the state - same distance to Lake Michigan as it is to the Mississippi River. And we do see them here occasionally, but not regularly.

Thank you, @esteemapp

Good shots!
What a magnificent blue bird, I would even say worthy of the royal palace!

Thank you very much! If I had a royal palace of my own I would keep plenty of peacocks :-)

thank%20you%20poussin.png for your wonderful shots Keith ! 😊

Thanks very much, Barbara!

There is no denying your Starbuckucks Crumb Sucker is a great name, and, the fact that you didn't even have to work hard for the shot? Bonus!

You are definitely the king of the feathered crowd and yes, what a huge difference in detail when you don't have to crop so much off. I love your peacock! What a proud-looking fella. Of course, the herons are one of my favorites, always.

Thanks for sharing beauty!

Thank you, Denise! I'm pretty sure I'm not the King of anything... can you just imagine me, mad with power? Off with his head!! Why I'd probably build a huge royal palace and fill the grounds with Peacocks! Wouldn't that be the life...

Wait. What were we talking about? Oh yeah, birds. Yes, I'm much happier with my camera gear now that I can crop in a little on a photo and still have an image 2,500 pixels wide and fill the frame with the subject. Thanks for commenting. I'm happy you like the photos and I appreciate the share! :-)

Geez! You and your photography is such a guilty pleasure. A palace! Yes! With a crown!

You've given me a new project to work on. Let's see now... I guess the first step should be to invade England. (They've already got crowns and castles and stuff...)

Now we are talking!! Maybe Scotland! I like their brogue!

Och aye, Scotland it is then... :-)

Great shots! Love the details :)

Thanks very much!

Nice to get a lens to assist with photography, birds are always on the move, and move that much quicker when humans are involved...

Starbucks Crumb Sucker, now that is a real cutie sitting so close having a chatter, reminds me of our female Mossie (Cape sparrow) which we have plenty in the garden, not quite so accommodating yet.

Try leaving some cookie crumbs for your Mossie... I think that Cape Sparrows are a very close relation to my little bird! :-)

We do put seed and brown bread out for the birds, feeder is under a low tree and next to a very thick bush they fly into hide when approaching. Have noticed some of the mossies will sit and watch from relatively close of late without taking off.
