Pairing in all known paradises ends:
Here loveless birds now flock as winter friends,
Content with bud inspecting. They presume
To say which buds are leaf and which are bloom.
Robert Frost, A Winter Eden
The city is on track to have the first snowless winter since the winter of 1982-83. The finches are back, so are the geese, and the hills are dotted with bright blossoms. Atmospherically speaking, there's been plenty of mayhem in the clouds. Like the mysterious mist that came from the ocean and stayed for a little while.

Some spots in the city are great for overwintering birds that arrive from northern climes or higher altitudes, where the temperatures can sure freeze one's feathers. These are images of several ducks that I happened to encounter one misty day.

I believe these ducks are the Barrow's goldeneye, but I noticed that there were a few different species in the mix.

Thank you!
God!!! Such beauty, regardless of species, they are beautiful!

On gray days like this, the birds are peaceful in the ocean.

I'm moving to Vancouver :)))
We are congratulating ourselves on finally buying a snowblower. I haven't seen this much snow in years. Besides that, we've been under an Arctic freeze.
The pictures are gorgeous.
It sounds like the east coast got an extra dose of winter this season. I wanted to see some snow, and not so much rain, but the warmth is nice, as these birds well know.
