Northern Flicker

The Northern Flicker is the woodpecker that I seem to encounter most often. I have some resident ones in my neighborhood. I also see them at local parks. Their high pitched squeak is easy to recognizes once you've heard it a few times. They are known as the only woodpecker that will feed on the ground and can often be seen either resting on a lawn or grassy area. Usually before or after looking for a meal.
