Classification


The shown species belongs to tit family. Its common name is Eurasian blue tit and it is obvious because of its colour. Blue tit is a small passerine bird.

Common Appearance


The unique appearance of the blue tit comes from its blue cap and white face, yellow underparts. Thin black line goes through the eyes.


Appearance:

  • Body: small, lenght 12 cm, wingspan - 18cm,
  • Eyes: black
  • Legs: grey
  • Other dominant visible characteristics: wings and tail are also blue. The blue on the top of the head sometimes is shaggy.

Places of Spread


This exact species is mostly spread in Europe, hence the name Eurasian blue tit, all year round. Can be found in woodlands as well as in city parks.

Diet


Blue tit feeds on insects, spiders, seeds and fruit. Likes to visit bird feeders with sunflower seeds, peanuts. I have seen it pecking apples and plums.

Peculiarities and Rarity


This bird is well known for its acrobatic skills when it feeds and often can be seen in peculiar positions including feeding upside down either on a tree or bird feeder.

There are more great tits in our area and rarely long-tailed. But the blue tits are very entertaining to watch.

Wonderful entry for the DNA species hunt - great photos and so much information! A great example of how to write up entries for the DNA Species Hunt - I'll have to do it for some of the birds by our home in the Boreal forest of Canada - there are so many of them.

How cute and it's got some really pretty colors you do find some lovely birds in your side of the planet.

It is very funny little birdie. I am still discovering new species and I am happy the weather turned warm again and hopefully weekend will be nice and more birds will come out.

He does seem to have great characteristics about him besides been cute.
