We went down to wait for the old steam train to pass through her and when we stopped at the line, the train was standing there. Imagine our surprise as it was only supposed to arrive 30 minutes later.
There was a big diesel unit coupled to the steam train and it must have had problems, so the unit pulled the whole lot faster over the mountain.
It was waiting for a signal as it had arrived early and the Cape was still miles away.
Noise levels are way beyond that my friend.

We still hear the diesel pulling wagons over the bridge at night, hoot before entering the bridge when wind direction is coming up the valley. No steam train anymore on Sunday's that line is now only from Kloof to the Drakensberg for a day ride.
So sad to no more have the steam train and the diesel's hooter sounds totally different, as the steam train has an almost melodiac call. Have you been on that day ride?
We did coastal trip a few times when children were younger, now planning inland from Kloof perhaps toward winter, too hot at the moment.
Glad that you did do the trips and yes, our time to take a trip is in April.
Autumn should be spectacular, or winter when Aloes are out in bloom.
Oh yes and the colors are stunning. The weather is also comfortable and everything is good.
